I might ordinarily have said that's mind games ahead of Wednesday, but I don't think that's Roy's style. Also, what he said after the Chelsea game, I think it was, when Connor came on as a sub, leads me to think Roy's not his greatest fan.

I agree. I dont think Roy rates our Connor much

It seemed more like Roy has issues with Wickham's training than anything else. Did he not also say that this is the first time in ages that Wickham managed 6 consecutive training sessions*?

I think we can all see Wickham is a better centre forward than Ayew -- and years of coaching /practicing to follow the ball in paid off yesterday -- but that inconsistency of training simply won't allow Wickham to become our recognised centre forward.

Two months training every single day and yeah, then it's a fair complaint. I thought Wickham's pace/energy was pretty average too. As you'd expect from an under trained player.

(*It could be I misread the quotes I saw, or that the quotes I saw were incorrect).

If we had any other manager Wickham would start and Benteke would be on the bench or vice versa. It’s a big worry so let’s hope Roy’s stubbornness doesn’t cost us.

I see Ayew as decent cover for Wilf and Andros. He is not a centre forward and it is weird that an experienced manager would see him as one.

Hodgson dissed Wickham when he came on and changed the game, it's there live TV. Don't know what his problem is, but Hodgson is a stubborn prick of the highest order.

But one that deserves a little more respect

Taking into account that Wickham has had a hell of a lot of injuries in his career what has to be asked is can his body take the punishment of the Premier league is he only going to be 80-90% fit . Is it going to be a case that he will only be able to play “ X” amount of per season.
There is no point rushing Wickham back, we have to look at the reality side basically, and I hate saying this, he could break down anytime and then we are back to square one.we need that other striker to come in this transfer window and use Wickham carefully. I really feel sorry for the lad he has had a trorrid time with injuries.

Have to laugh as I was just listening to the post match while walking the dog and thought EXACTLY the same thing.

All normal and routine except when he says he "rested" Ayew for this one and wouldn't start Wikcham in the league.

Why the F not, was the follow up question I had hoped for, but it didn't come. Wickham made several defensive headed clearances which Ayew doesnt bring, in fact I seem to recall a previous game against spurs where he absolutely bottled it and left Foyth score. All in all Wickham led the line well yesterday.

I am not saying Ayew is sh&t but why the hell can Wickham start in the cup but not in the league now? Makes no sense.

By the time Benteke and Wickham finish Roy's painstaking "back to match fitness" plan the season will be over.

I'll say it
Ayhew is s***!

Ayew has improved hugely and I doubt Wickham and Benteke will not be used as subs from now on, the team create tons of chances so we have nothing to worry about.

He publicly slated him a few weeks back for misleading the medical staff and coming back from injury too early.

Bit harsh, I thought, as players want to play.

To be fair - Connor would probably not be starting against Southampton so soon after Sunday but I would have him up front on Saturday - he would scare them silly whilst Ayew just won't.
I hope Roy see sense.
