Todayís performance was very poor. We were again far to defensive and allowed City to dominate play especially in the first half. Patrick Van Aanholt didnít have a clue on how to mark Sterling and was mainly responsible for both of his goals. His passing game has also been poor for a number of weeks. We are also losing goals in the final minutes like today. These problems are down to poor management and coaching and RH like most 70+ year olds should get on and retire.

We are beaten by one of the best teams in Europe, who are on for an unparalleled quadruple, and the defeat is due to the age of our manager?

I think 50%+ of the posters on here should retire.

no grumbles here, they controlled the game from the outset.

Agree. City are one of the best teams in the world while we, with some honourable exceptions, have basement Prem/Championship players past their best. First two goals were Patsy's responsibility and the third was offside.

A display of superb footballing skills ... but it wasn't from us. It made me wonder how the blazes we beat them up at their place?

What I don't understand, not just in this match, but first half of the season we were, according to some, including me, playing some of yhe best football we've seen at palace. Crisp, quick passing, creating loads of chances. All we needed was a CF to knock those chances in. We get a CF in jan, and since then we've been playing slow, negative football, can't pass the ball and create nothing.....What's happened? Shoukd we go back to playing wilf and andros up front?

City are the best team I have seen for a long time and we could have been three down at half time!
There is no shame in losing to them - BUT -
We give possession away so easily - unforced errors.
We panic - and not just yesterday - every week.
We ball watch.
We get sucked in to the ball too easily when opposition teams are in possession.
Van Aanholt is just having a 'mare week in and week out and if there were a replacement he needs a rest.
We are too negative and despite how good City were I still feel that we should have pressed them a bit more - we lack ambition and belief in ourselves which is a shame.
On the flip side it was only 3-1 and i would have settled for that so we move on to next Sunday where I think we have a very good chance of turning Arsenal over!

I take an alternative view of this.Arsenal have won their last 7 home games,in all competitions - it will be another hard watch for us supporters.

CF in natural midfielder out. We went from control in midfield but no end to losing midfield and no supply to CF.

That's my theory anyway.

This is a decent summary. Itís not the result that pains me itís the manner in which we played. We did not pick up a player until they were halfway into our half inviting them to try and pick us apart which they duly did. If you watched them when we had the ball they were on us in seconds, hunting in packs to turn over the ball. Our idea of pressing seems to be Benteke lumbering backwards and forwards between the two centre halfís as they calmly pass it round him.

If it was only against City and Liverpool that we did this you could sort of live with it, however we have performed in a similar manner for most of the season and it does not make for pleasant viewing. I sat with a Spanish guy yesterday to watch the match who didnít know a lot about football who asked me which league Palace were in. He thought it was a cup match and we were from the first or second division. Sums it up really. City are good, but to sit off as we did was making it so easy for them and was only ever going to end up with one result.

I agree with many of the summary posts above. Clearly our midfield had been told not to break lines and get ahead of the ball so City couldn't counter us. This was hugely frustrating as Benteke won absolutely everything in the air. It even got to the stage where City weren't even competing for the first ball, but just made sure they picked up the second ball. This is where we needed those runners to anticipate the knockdowns.
Our best option yesterday was route one and by passing midfield - as we were clearly outclassed in this and many other departments.
Anyway, we will just have to wait until next season to do the double over them
