Didn't fell very safe when supporters used to start up that 'Knees up Mother Brown' song which resulted in them surging down the Holmesdale Terrace.

During one such surge I was barged in the back and how I managed to catch my transistor radio before it smashed into pieces on the floor was quite remarkable.T was NOT best pleased at all and made my views known to the perpertrators.

Youíre a funny fellow at times.

Ha!ha! Willo. Yes, knees up mother brown, was a little bit hairy.
I suppose the lesson here is, leave the transistor radio at home... health and safety don't you know... something those perpetrators would have adhered to I'm sure...

Also, as a precautionary step maybe not stand where the song was sung, after all the holmesdale was a fairly big terrace.

Unless of course, there was another reason for you to stand there with a transistor radio.

I wasn't even standing in the vicinity of the normal 'Ultras'. I was standing to one side and a group of 'Outriders' decided to emulate those more central who normally were more vociferous and demonstrative and considered to be the 'Crew'.Good job I wasn't wearing dentures.

Safe standing is obviously nice for people who wish to stand but it will only offer an even greater advantage to the bigger clubs who have more space for safe terracing.
They will benefit more financially than clubs with smaller grounds.

Palace needs to increase the size of Selhurst and quick.

Likely to bring in more issues around how many fans we have that want to stand, and chucking more people who want to sit out of their seats.

I'm behind the move, but it's going to be problematic to bring in.

Roughly half of the lower Holmesdale stands every match. It would make sense to make the whole of the lower equipped for safe standing but introduce it to the back half of the whole stand first. There will obviously be enough pissed off people who will complain but there should also be enough seats for them to move into.

Once (if) the new stand is built, I'd like to see the Whitehorse become a two tier away end with the lower tier safe standing. I appreciate that we are years away from this though.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Bollox to away end suggestion, keep the away fans where they are, in the worst part of the stadium. The last thing we want is to give them an end so they can dominate part of the stadium.

There has been a lot of football stadium feng shui going on in recent years, as its considered a mental advantage shooting towards your own fans - hence why Palace will shoot towards the Holmesdale second half, or Liverpool towards the Kop, or Man Utd towards the Stretford End. (unless they lose the coin toss). As a result, a few clubs have moved away fans from behind the goal to side/corner.

Away fans should have the worst view, facilities and where they can make least sound. Newcastle have it about right, as did Wolves when then stuck you in the lower tier the entire the length of the pitch.

A few years ago I did the stadium tour of Boca Juniors, we were told that the away fans are put in the top corner of the stadium which has no roof, meaning its bloody freezing in winter and in summer there is no shade. Furthermore, they don't serve refreshments and turn off all running water. The intention to make it as unpleasant and hostile for away fans. It's a bit extreme, but I agree with their sentiment.

Safe standing in the lower tier is a must.

Surely, safe standing doesn't increase capacity, so there would be no financial benefit to clubs. As I understand it, there are still the pull-down seats and the capacity is still one person per place (i.e.stand or sit).

You have a point. I guess the new system might take up as much space per head as a seat.

Duh! I clearly still live in the '70s. ):

Itís an easy thing to miss, even if it so obvious. And we thought women have no spatial awareness. Well not at side turnings anyway.

The rail seating in the away end at Spurs was good. First time I've experienced it. Would like to see it at more grounds.

Yes the rail seating at Spurs is excellent. It does not increase capacity as you need the same space as a seat. However, unlike sections of the old terracing it does give you the protection of a barrier.
Lets hope the powers that be get on with bringing the required legislation.

That's generous. I think I was suffering some sort of mini stroke when I wrote that post, either that or I took my intermittent fasting a bit too far.
