People - including me - were gutted when Allardyce & Pulis left but would they have done any better than Roy in the last 18 months?! I doubt it very much. The football would have been arguably worse too.

Yep, we can hark back to when Roy took Fulham on a European tour and Allardyce got West Ham well up the table another time but the games changed so much since then ... that we can't expect managers at this level to do that.

49 points considering we haven't broke the bank and got stung on bad signings again is another Hodgson masterclass IMO. He has a system ... and it works!

Well said sir. Those moaning that we lost to Brighton twice and Watford 3 times are conveniently ignoring that we won at City, could have won at Liverpool, took 4 points from Arsenal etc etc. In fact over the last 15 games of the season we were only bettered by Liverpool and Man City. An extraordinary achievement. If we can continue with that level of consistency for next season we will all be delighted (well maybe with one exception who always seems to put a downer on things).

Could have won at Liverpool? Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

I'm on the same page as you all which is the point you're all missing.

You say let's carry that form on, I'm saying we should've hit that form earlier. The result is the same: we should have, and are capable of having more points.

I don't understand how I'm the negative one for expecting more and believing we've got the talent to do better, yet you're all the positive ones for thinking 12th place and nearly beating Liverpool is fantastic.

The reality is I'm the positive one. You're all negative and happy with falling short of our potential.

Anyway, roll on next season. Seems we're all agreed that we can achieve a better league place.

If we had picked up 9 more points at home, we would be watching the FA cup final to see if we could get into Europe...The difference could as been as fine as beating Brighton both times and finding 1 more win...

We had an excellent season that didnt really get excellent until quite late. In the end in the opposition forums, nobody looked confident about beating us, not even the top 6 sides.

Having a decent striker turned it round for us in the end. Having a preditory striker and a tank who beats most defenders in the air make a massive difference to a side like ours...

I think we need a proper quality striker, genuinly go big on it, then possibly a midfielder who can pop a few from range. A premiership version of Ambrose and we could achieve amazing things next season!

Agreed. And 'careful what you wish for' springs to mind.
Personally, I'd still say staying up is a good season. Getting all 'big time' and thinking we have an 'entitlement' to be in this league should never be he Palace way. The fans should always support the team that way.
So this season has been a success, but it is tinged with a bit of 'what could've been' due to home results.

However, I wonder where we'd have finished if we'd had fit strikers from August -January. Or a Batshuayi, scoring at a rate of 1:2 all season?

... what

I'm glad you've taken the time to give such constructive and in no way patronising advice on how I should formulate my opinions about palace: subject to your approval of course.

As you're obviously the type of person who appreciates open and honest exchanges let me reciprocate:

Please, have a great summer, pick up a book about soccer, educate yourself. Perhaps do some math(s) and see where we could be in the table if we beat our rivals who are s*** and come back with a positive, can do attitude: Top 8 here we come, Go Eagles!

One more thing. If you’re going to quote the US Army get it right. The full list is “horse shoes, hand grenades & tactical nuclear devices.” Now kindly start pushing up Selhurst Park until I get good and properly knackered.

Good for you, would you like a medal? I'm not sure how any of that is relevant although I find it ironic that you complain of being bored to tears when you're the one trotting out their life's story, like I should care about your minor, insignificant achievements or that it qualifies you in some way to tell me how I should support Palace.

Enjoy your ginger ale, great job!

No need to be so negative

One more thing, if you're going to try and score points, do a quick Google search first.

The quote is first attributed to the Lincoln daily news in 1915 "close only counts in horseshoes" with hand grenades getting tacked on in the 70s by American baseball player Frank Robinson.

The fact that the US military have claimed it as their own and added "tactical nuclear devices" to it doesn't surprise me.

Surely a close proximity doesn't really count with Nukes anyway, so there's an illogical addition to an otherwise funny saying.

It's just an observation, like, but whenever there are snide and patronising comments flying around here, you seem to be at the epicentre of it all. Why is this, do you think?

Not good enough. On to the next one.

Done the double over Wolves (great team, Wolves), Burnley (7th last year why cant we do that?) Leicester (league champions couple of years ago...). Beat Man City, Arsenal, point at Old Trafford. Matched our best premier points total...

Clearly the Brighton and Watford results are all that really matter. Perhaps ask Chris Houghton and many Brighton supporters and you might get a different answer. Of course, like you, I would have liked us to have done better against both Watford and Brighton but give it a rest.

The problem has been taking a game to the opposition at home and finding ways to get through competent compact defences when they also concentrate on the players we have who have that ability to cause them problems ..and doing that with a team who can struggle at the best of times with fairly straight forward passing and movement, we basically have too many players either lacking confidence or ability on the ball when playing teams at home.
Bournemouth came out and played into our hands, most teams definitely do not do this which is very sad for our entertainment lol
