But we did tend to have a 4-3-3 shape at the end of last season. The difference was that we had a striker whom Roy could rely on.

Yes, Roy can be infuriatingly stubborn sometimes, but on the whole I don't think he can do much more than try to squeeze enough points out of a squad with major deficiencies.

MOTD2 had us playing a 4-3-3 in the lineup thing last night. It was anything but that. It was 4-4-2, or effectively 4-4-0.

Can somebody explain why we continue to pass the ball sideways and backwards in our own half? I think many would agree that yesterday's back four are not the best ball players and we seem to put ourselves under pressure resulting in either giving chances to the opposition or a panic boot upfield to nobody. I know the long ball game is not fashionable but surely this could at least be a plan B as we don't seem to have anyone confident enough to take the ball forward and attack. Been watching plan A for so long now it's depressingly predictable every game and I'm sure predictable to the opposition

We don't have a player that links the midfield to the forwards, all our centre mids are try hard players but lack creativity. In the past we've had RLC, Cabaye even Puncheon at times, I was hoping Camarssa was that player but he didn't even make the bench - another one Roy had no say in maybe?

Also Sakho's ability to be calm under pressure, playing forward passes through the midfield has really been missed.

I don't think Hodgson is the main problem here. I'd sooner see us replace the American Investors and Dougie NOW within the next 24hrs and then place Parish before Hodgson in terms of fault why we're in this mess.

That said, as the Manager is the easiest one to replace, you have to wonder if it's worthwhile doing anyway, if we can't get what we actaully want (new owners and a DoF that you know, has ANY experience in the role) and for me the answer is yes based on yesterday.

I'm not suggesting we go back to an old Manager but I'll just take 3 of them as prime examples:

Allardyce - starts Cahill yesterday, gets at least 0-0.

Pulis/Pardew - Practice attacking corners/set-pieces, we might actually be useful from one for once. How has Roy taken us from the biggest threat in the league to NEVER scoring from corners?

Pardew - Priortises attack, we probably still lose the game but 4-3 and the away fans and people watching on TV don't feel they've wasted a Sunday.

Obviously the last one is a little tongue in cheek, Pards had to go, but at least there was some entertainment.

It is extremely frustrating that Roy is mostly reactive rather than proactive. Substitutions after 60-65 mins every week is guaranteed and almost a joke in the stands.

We enter every game, home or away, looking to set up for a point and remain compact.

It has it's positives in the fact we will very rarely get turned over 4 or 5 against the bigger sides, but we just never seem to put any team to the sword.

However, Sheff Utd away is a game we really should be winning regardless of the atmosphere or hype in the build up. They really arent a great side.

Their game plan was let our centres halves play out from the back and when they get them ball, go wide and overlap. We are so narrow with Townsend, our only winger in a midfield 4, that they split us apart too often.

The shape was wrong and I think it was harsh to drop Ayew for Zaha. Benteke for Ayew should have been the replacement - or even start Wickham !

The players are professional and I expected a similarly professional performance yesterday.

We were absolutely shocking.

What I learnt yesterday is the following :

- Townsend had a successful time last season as he didn't have to look after AWB for 90 mins.

- Benteke is useless.

- Zaha really doesn't want to be here.

- PVA needs cover/support in front of him as he can be creative from full back and gets exposed.

- We miss Sakho.

- Start Cahill, we need leadership.

- We won't score more than 30 goals this year.

Same old situation every year and I think we may have survived one too many times.

I want Roy in charge but he just seems to be too stubborn.

Roy picked a back 4 of which 3 of them rarely play, as I mentioned before Wardy is a squad player and he was getting over run down his side of the pitch, that would never have happened when AWB was playing and it was that side of the pitch were the goal came from.

I hate to think what will happen at old Trafford. I hope Roy plays Cahill because our defence will get torn to shreds next weekend.

Look at wolves since Fosun bought them 3 years ago for £45m!!!
Same price as Wan Bissaka. Laughable but true.
Fosun are worth £7.5 billion. They have a clear plan of how to grow the club.
SP and our want away American Owners could probably get £100m for us. We so need new owners with very deep pockets or I fear we will be seriously struggling. SP has let us all down this summer selling one of our best players and banking most of the cash. No key replacements. Big mistake. Huge.
We have all but lost our best 3 players from last season and dismally failed to buy players in key positions that we all know. WZ should have gone for £50m. Their are no excuses. Sadly we are stagnating which you simply can’t do in the premier.
Our club management and now team management are constantly being called to account by us fans.
A serious overhaul is called for if we want to progress. But it is very late in the day to do something significant.

It's far too late in the day to do anything. Our club has already stagnated and is heading for inevitable oblivion. It can only be yet another season dragging ourselves along the bottom of the league playing clueless and unentertaining football like we saw on Sunday. Our luck looks like it has run out with an unfit looking team containing individual misfits who appear to ignore one another on the pitch. The aim of the game is to get the football up field in the back of the opposition's net not tip tap from side to side and pointlessly backwards. Nobody looks interested off or on the pitch. The Americans need to go as they know nothing about football nor care a toss about the club. A very poor decision by Parish/the board that has contributed nothing and could be our ultimate coffin nail.

You do know the director loans were probably being demanded to be paid back, and we bid for right backs but weren’t prepared to go to £20 mil and Clyne got injured, don’t you?

Did you at any point say we should have sold Zaha for £50 mil or are you just saying it now. What if he returns to form vs villa?

Roy will not make radical changes to the starting XI or formation. At most he will bring in schlupp for Meyer and Ayew for Benteke. Neither of which will make the slightest difference to result or performance.

How long do we wait this season before we make the managerial change? Next fixtures are:

Utd- away
Villa- home
Spurs- away
Wolves- home
Norwich- home

If we don’t pick up 6 points against villa and Norwich at home then it could well be curtains for Roy. We aren’t going to get anything from the other fixtures and if you can’t pick up points at home to newly promoted teams then we don’t stand any chance of staying up.

The Americans are a big problem, but maybe they were the only interested investors. They did pump funds in for the Allardyce survival, but that c0ck up was down to Parish’s regular fvck up. That time it was bringing in FDB to overhaul the football on such a small budget compared to the £80-100 mil it would’ve needed we’d never have or we’d broken ffp in doing it so fast.

Parish drives a hard bargain, sometimes too hard for football when you need players by a certain time. It’s not an office after all and the 3 worst will go down, or the manager get the hump and leave. But when it comes down to football though he has absolutely no idea and no idea on who to recruit.

Ask yourselves honestly. If someone bought the club today, who out of Parish’s assistants or employees would be kept on?

Roy and Ray? No
Freedman? Never
Bright? No. Maybe short term for info. (Glenn Murray anyone?)

We’ve had so many inexperienced former players be recruited it’s become a painful joke. John salako doing tricks at HT. wtf? Richard Shaw is doing well with the academy, but who is now invited back at Selhurst? Julian fvcking Gray, that’s who.

But Parish will never step aside, loves the limelight and doesn’t trust anyone to do the great job he does in using knowledge from people without experience in the roles he’s getting their knowledge from. Parish knows how to save a pound though. We’ll see how that goes in panic January or reflection May time.

Surely if someone out there buys us there’s a way or someone to be sensible with the club finances so we don’t end up destroying ourselves who doesn’t have to be Parish?

I agree with the previous poster about likely changes for the weekend.
Roy is not a man for radical changes despite his apparent annoyance with Sunday’s performance.
You could make an argument for playing Kouyate in midfield to counteract Pogba in midfield and also to play Zaha on the right instead of the left as AWB apparently always used to have the measure of him in training.
Roy has a way of playing which he sticks to and he won’t tinker other than e.g deciding between Schlupp and Meyer for the role on the left.
