Yep but still probably true. If we can't beat the Oysters it will probably be Southend.

I just didn’t like the lack of effort/ideas from the fringe players. This will be their only chance of impressing in a proper match until, possibly, the Fa cup.
Especially the ones that were dropped at Man Utd , Townsend, Meyer and Benteke, if they’d played a blinder they would probably have started against villa. But they were all sooooo sh*t.

The question needs to be asked why Hodgson continues to b persist with playing players out of position.
The squad has gaps but he should still be able to field a balanced team.
Skilful players such as Riedewald and Meyer are set up to fail.
Hodgson has one way of playing which is sometimes successful but is very dull and he never takes responsibility .

Meyer was played in advanced position against league two opponents last night and was poor yet again.
Riedewald isn't a centre back and is hopeless in the air defensively. We have much better in midfield and looked lacking in energy and mobility. Not sure how he would fit into any premier league team.

I agree that neither Riedewald or Meyer have impressed under Hodgson and it may be that neither will be able to flourish in the physical nature of the premier league.
However, I would question whether they are used as anything other than stopgaps by Hodgson who has a fundamental distrust of flair.
Most of Meyer’s appearances have been in a left sided midfield role that he is clearly unsuited to.
There seems to be a mindset amongst many fans that we’d be lost without Hodgson’s organisational skills (I.e playing with 9 behind the ball even at home).
There is more to football than being set up to defend, and while this may be a valid approach against the top 6 I would like to see us be a bit more adventurous and creative while still remaining solid.
I don’t believe that this is an unreasonable aspiration.

I don't agree with the distrust of flair. We played the best football since we've been back in the Premier League when he had RLC and Cabaye available to him.

Last night against a league two team underlined just how poor our movement is in the final third and how few are able to shrug off or lose a player.

Colchester home to Tottenham in next round, have to say I’m happy to have that off the schedule.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Colchester v Spurs - great 3rd round for them. They deserve that after last nights performance against us.

To be honest I'm not sure how you've seen enough of him to make that assessment? Poor guy aint had much opportunity.

He's had a few including his debut against Huddersfield where he was badly exposed at centre back.

He played ok centre mid against City at home in the 0-0 but other than that has really struggled and was playing at the back when we got pumped 6-2 by Barnet pre-season IIRC
