But to address you seriously, the tax system and burden are already quite significant. The NHS for example employs 1.3 million people.

This isn't a low tax economy.

I know it's not. I am aware of what I already pay to the sh*tshows of governments so far in my working life

Look at Scandinavia though and the high tax/social security systems they have and the quality of life. If you have a government that knows what it's doing and looking out for people rather than profit then things can be better.

I would be very interested to see a link for your statement. Having worked in Immigration/ Border Force for over 40 years I never came across this, my wife still works for BF and is not aware of this, of course you may know better. It is true that foreign nationals who owe money for healthcare received in the UK ( for which they are not entitled) are put on a watch list, should they return or apply for a visa. Not registering ( Iif this is true) is not the same as accessing the NHS. I have seen many examples of NHS abuse, running into hundreds of thousands of pounds. Of course if you are happy with this ( maybe one of the reasons for long waiting times and lack of money) that is your prerogative

I agree if it's chasing unpaid NHS bills.

Ah the Independent. As I said, yes these details are used to chase foreign nationals for costs incurred but only if they seek re-entry or apply for a visa. I have never heard of anyone being removed due to not paying for treatment. Emergency treatment is more often than not free for all. I could tell you many facts about how people abuse the NHS but whatís t point you will believe whatever suits your political agenda. If you feel that someone from Nigeria (for example) who has never contributed towards the NHS should be allowed to enter the U.K. and immediately give birth to twins at your expense, then fine but donít complain about lack of funds/ beds available.
As an aside I worked for 2 years dealing with NHS abuse by foreign nationals but obviously you and the Independent know better

secondly, the UK population growth rate of 0.6% puts it as the 147th fastest growing national population in the world. Hardly a growth rate that would cause a public services (inc NHS) crisis. source: [Link]

the crisis in public services is a direct result of 9 year of underfunding. anyone who tells you otherwise probably just wants the party that has presided over this underfunding to remain in power.

Sorry but that's clearly bollox

Spending on the NHS continues to rise in real terms year on year but the population grows by about 500,000 each year so spending will never keep up with it. Comparing the population growth rate in the UK to 3rd world countries or countries that have a much lower population density is ridiculous. How much do you think it costs to pay for healthcare for half a million extra people every year? This is all in the context of a shrinking native population so *all* of this growth relates directly to immigration. It's clear (for those that use their eyes) that most of these people cannot pay their share of taxes so the cost is met with borrowing and reducing the service to people that have actually paid into the system. Obvioulsy this is also true of all other "free" services. We also justify more of this because we need mopre doctors and nurses.

Yet we keep idiots in labour telling us we are one of the wealthiest countries in the world and still give away billions in foreign aid to countries that either don't need it or have corrupt regimes.

Look at the state of it:

I'm no longer proud to be British. We are a joke and a disgrace.

There are about 50 people living in Scandinavia. Quality of life is wrecked by too many people and in some cases, the wrong kind of people.

Sweden is finding that out right now.

Scandinavia.....High in natural resources and low in population. There are lots that can be said about that region, both positive and negative.

I would agree with you though on the principle that wealthy people will pay higher taxes for a high quality society.....though how high is reasonable is a question. As is what quality returns do they get in return.

Scandinavia though is currently damaging its brand.

Scandinavian governments tend to have universal benefits and don't means test. When I was briefly unemployed I had savings so I was told use this to pay my mortgage and all my other bills. I spent most of my working life paying 40% tax but when I need it I'm told to go away.

If Labour is serious about having a generous welfare / benefits system they should take that on board and yes it would mean millionaires are entitled.

If everyone can claim then maybe we won't complain.

Anybody notice how rubbish the news has been today?

That's because they are not allowed to speculate until after 10pm and not just about the election anything that might be considered bias is out.

This just goes to show how much of our "news" is actually nothing more than speculation to fill up the airwaves.

We'd be better if they showed a tropical fish tank or landscapes.
