Far worst than the rancid contents of your post was the incredible boredom I experienced reading it.

It would be easier to jack off to the speaking clock than re-read that again.

As I have advised you many times there is neither a requirement to either read my comments nor to reply to them. They aren't really intended for you. They are intended to provide a counter-argument and not to allow warped and dangerous sentiments stand unchallenged.

If "jacking-off" to the speaking clock floats your boat, carry on. It wouldn't be the strangest thing I have ever heard happens in the Fens.

Oh please. I don't like Trump but that is a silly comment. Even the BBC has said impeachment is not a legal process but a political process. The idea that they will seek the truth and vote accordingly has long gone.

Legally I agree but the arguments both for and against will be heard and then we can make up our own minds. Remember that before then an investigation will be undertaken into the sequence of events on that day and no doubt a number of those involved will appear in Court. Some of the preliminary defence statements don't make nice reading for Trump and will likely be referenced.

I also understand that there may be separate legal challenges both from members of Congress over Trump's contribution to what happened on the 6th, and by some of the state legislatures over Trump's claims about election fraud which led to violence and threats of violence.

This is a long way from a conclusion.

Not in any way. I was always an outsider who kept himself to himself. My friends there were either from the immigrant community or a British incomer like myself.

For all the people right and left to chuckle:

Man is the most insane species. He worships an invisible God and destroys a visible Nature. Unaware that this Nature he’s destroying is this God he’s worshipping.

Let's take this away from the 20th into more of a political positioning perspective.

While Trump's definitely an elite's he's also a nationalist so at the very least he represents a challenge to the near monopoly of globalism.

A stop gap if you like....a delay of the process.

I'd say you'd agree that the west as a society is heading towards a western 'China 2.0'...more corporate focused perhaps but an elite monoculture that controls an economically 'serf-like' population it keeps in nihilistic slumber with technological bread and circuses.

Now I know you think this system will ultimately win out...maybe it will. However, to bring in a silly Star Wars analogy if you are faced with supporting the republic, the Empire or being Han Solo (who later joins the republic) surely you aren't going to side with the Empire just because it possibly wins.

The X wing or the Tie fighter......Trump is Luke Skywalker ....just a rather horrible version who actually loses at the end of the first movie.

Better to die at the 'hot gates' than to be a slave to the Persians.

Ok, now I know these analogies have gone too far....but I'm two JDs in and I'll be having a third.

That really depends on your situation, though, doesn't it, and how much you have to lose at the time. Most people will have jobs and families and will want the easy option that maintains their social, financial and technological security rather than take a risk on rebelling. Same as always. If they make it comfortable enough for most, it will happen without any resistance at all. If they cock it up, or make it harder to make that choice comfortable... mass rebellion. Basically if 'the empire' offers the safe route, most people will take it. Even if they don't feel particularly great about it. Same as always.

Quite.

But something really does not seem right at all. Those security measures seem completely over the top. In fact none of the security around Washington makes any sense whatsoever.

On the 6th of January, you have the kind of security measures you might see at a Dulwich Hamlet game. And now, for supposedly the most popular US President ever, tens of thousands of troops deployed and security measures on a level never seen before employed.

I also note, and would be incredibly happy to be told why, that it is primarily National Guard units being used and not regular Army.

Is that how these things are usually done or is there more to this? A 100% genuine question by the way with no slant or expectation of an answer I want to here. Just curiosity.

Normal over-reaction for political theatre.

Remember the tanks outside our airports after 9-11. What sensible security advance did that make?

Ok.

A little bit of research done (which can be a dangerous thing, I concede).

When it comes to domestic enforcement, the National Guard are not under any kind of Presidential command. Authority lays solely with the Governor.

So essentially the regular Army are not being trusted.

Potentially very interesting.

I am guessing here, but when was the last time the regular army were commissioned to quell public disorder? Surely, it is the job in the US for the National Guard to support local PD in extremis?

I think you are correct. As Stirling pointed out, during the Vietnam war. So makes total sense that they're not involved, rather than it being some sort of conspiracy power play.
