Or alternatively rely on someone with a better track record.

It"s not suprising as everyone you talk to seems to have had something strange since christmas, they say they think they had it but probably a lesser strain of something,

If you are interested. Too technical for me thus i gave up to read but the summary seems like different variations hit the countries in different way.

You’d have a point on Neil Ferguson if it wasn’t for the fact that the whole world has had a lockdown at some point. His figures might be exaggerated but it looks conclusive that if there was no lockdown then the spread would’ve been out of control and admissions into hospital would’ve been too much, continued to be too much and have a knock on effect other illnesses and procedures. They’re only just starting to address those and might start using the nightingale hospitals for covid to get on top of things.

If anyone was so confident he was wrong to begin with then they would’ve stuck their necks out and called him out publicly. Instead they’ve waited for now when we’re over the peak of hopefully the only peak.

My concern is what happens now, not that we had a lockdown. I always thought reducing the furlough amount to 50% would shock those willing to go back to work into wanting to go back to work. It looks like it’s going to be 60% of pay. Not many employers will cover 40%.

I think there’s a few local tradesmen who can do jobs outside are taking a sort of forced physical break when it’s normally difficult to choose when to take a break when self employed and you don’t want to turn work down.

But I’ve heard a medical expert say there’s 30 something times more risk in being one metre away from an infected person than being 2 metres away.

It’s not so much the lockdown as the modelling used which has been questioned.

Oh yes because we can definitely trust Leave.EU when it comes to figures.

Very convenient for this story to come out and dominate the front pages the same day we overtake Italy in deaths.

I am always suspicious about media reporting of studies as they tend to go with the worst case scenario. Studies are just predictions based on assumption with the knowledge at the time. The huge death rates quoted for the various studies he has produced looks bad but I bet if you actually read the reports there would be plenty of caveats and alternate lower numbers.

It needs other experts to discredit a scientist's work my guess is he is not better or worse at this than they are.

So apparently there are 12 variations of the virus circulating in the UK more variations than any other country. So the decision not to close our borders looks worse and worse.

New Zealand closed their borders very quickly and seem to have a grip on the situation. The UK is not only a final destination for millions but London especially is a hub for onward travel within the UK and onto the rest of the world.

Or put in another way we became a Petri dish for the rest of the world.

It probably doesn't matter about closing borders now the damage has been done.

Stay safe everyone.

Timing couldn’t have been any better for the government. The ‘we’ve just been following the science brigade’ now have their scientist they can throw to the masses and wipe their hands clean.

Reporting going on that The Telegraph have had this story since late March, curios they chose the day we have the highest official count in Europe to break the story.

Furguson is a massive hypocrite for breaking the governments own rules but shall we apply some consistency to our approach? Jenrick did not resign when he drove 140miles to see his aged parents; the PM did not resign when he came out of hospital and went to his fourth home at Chequers, when he could have literally crossed over the River Thames to 10 Downing Street.
