Oh, for goodness sake loosen up a bit. You take some of these posts - and yourself - far too seriously.

I am perfectly loose, thanks. Had a good game of bowls this morning, my first loss of the winter season, but still enjoyable. Then a long walk with my dog in the beautiful Cornish countryside, with views down the river. Lots of bird life and peace. Who could be tight with that?

Sense of humour by pass.

When others just treat such comments as a joke, then maybe I will too.

I've said before people worry about themselves and this does absolutely nothing to negate their lives. Move on.

We all ought to care. If it was a left wing government, or even a local authority, doing the same then the right-wing tabloids would be all over it, whipping up the anger.

We NEED the BBC to be impartial. That applies whatever your personal world view might be. Determining whether it is, or not, must not be allowed to be in the hands of any politician. It must be independently assessed.

You have reached a place in life where you have time to care about things like this. Many care about their issues and when they get to a point that the BBC is more important than food, a roof and living I'm sure they will.

Don't be silly. I loath the extreme left every bit as much as the extreme right.

There are those here, who most would regard as holding some pretty hard right views, who openly claim that anyone holding a political opinion that is even a tad more socially "liberal" than their own is a raving "lefty", and they are just conservatives.

It's not my understanding of what true conservatism is.

We agree on one thing at least - extremism of any persuasion is unpleasant and not what is required!

Self-satisfied or what? Not an attractive quality.

Indeed. That shouldn't need reiterating, but unfortunately - and bizarrely - it does.

As for the Beeb, I know a handful of people who don't bother with a license, and not for particularly ideological reasons. So I'd say that if someone proudly disagrees with it, go that route. They will send letters, knock at the door occasionally, which of course is madness, but you'll be living your principles at least.

I think that attitude to be profoundly wrong. Most of us believe that there are things that need to be changed, so campaigning is perfectly reasonable. Disobeying the law is not, though. Down that road lies anarchy.

I'm not advising people to disobey the law, rather suggesting that they should stop watching TV if they don't want to pay the license fee.

I certainly think that anyone enjoying or watching the BBC should pay for a license fee. Beyond that if someone doesn't watch it, but feasibility is able to do so, I guess that's more of a grey area.

You need a licence to watch any TV. Get rid of the sets and no-one will bother you. Possess the capacity and you invite scrutiny.

Not if you watch programmes on catch up or on demand. Excluding those on the BBC of course.
