I would like to see Lineker removed and couldn't care less what politics his replacement might support as long as he didn't use his high profile position in the BBC to promote them

People can read, or ignore. That's their choice. It would be a restriction of free speech if only the unknown could express themselves. If Lineker is that concerned about immigration or other issues he could have approached the BBC and asked them for a platform to express his views with a right of reply of course for the alternate opinion. Instead he chose to use his celebrity profile to attack government policy, if his contract doesn't prohibit him from doing that then shame on the BBC. Most employees have a "morals" (for want of a better word) clause that prohibits them from doing reputational damage to the organisation they work for.

In the eyes of some who believe it's reputation to be damaged already, probably. In the eyes of others, depending on the consequences, it might strengthen its reputation. The ball is still in play.
