W.Ham did go down on 42 pts in a 38 game season.

bloody 45 points.

Many pundits including Lawro, think that under Hodgson,we are under no threat of relegation and will enjoy a mid table end to the season( strange he he always seems to predict our losing in any given fixture!!)
Newcastle in all sorts of difficulty,Sheffield look doomed, cannot be WBA getting out of trouble.
Brighton and Burnley likely to avoid the drop,in my view, leaving Fulham also in the mix.

I am pretty sure we got relegated once with 49 points in the early 90's. Probably 22 teams back then though.

Relegated with 49 points in 92-93 season.
Final game v Arsenal at Highbury. Judas scored and kissed the badge, that’s why I will always hate him as a person !
Took my 12 YO son to that game and remember him being upset on the depressing tube journey back home.

Am shocked.

It should be engraved on our headstones.

Oldham season 1992-3, relegated us on goal difference.

God, yes remember it, Oldham needed to win their last 3 games & we needed 1 point, just one measly point. They did & we didnt.

The season when Grobbellaar dived over the ball giving Oldham the win.
I think we are safe but we do need reinforcements next season and everywhere.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

Back to the question. Really hard to answer. Has the opposite emotional effect on me than the usual prediction one.
My heart says there are not three worse teams than us. My head says look at the league we have accumulated far more points than lots of teams and the league doesn't lie.
However, watching Fulham, Wolves, even Brighton and on occasions WBA, Shef U, Newcastle, they look so much better than we ever do and I have to wonder how we can possibly sustain our mid-table position.

I still think we will need luck to stay up this year and if we do something major has to change in the Summer....

They might look good, but can they score goals? None of them have scored more than us (BHA the same number) and as for the bottom four, their scoring record is really poor. We've scored more than Burnley and Sheff U combined!
Pretty looking football does 't necessarily put the ball in the back of the net.

I too was at Highbury that day. The sickener wasn't just Ian Wright. Oldham were at home to Southampton and took a 4-1 lead. Southampton brought it back to 4-3 and then had a penalty shout turned down by the ref. We were listening on a transistor after the final whistle at Highbury. Later I saw the penalty incident which was 100%. Palace robbed again.

I had completely repressed these memories. Also the ghost goals v QPR and Bristol. Also the FA Cup final sh1t v Man U. Twice. I'm sure there are more.
