Also my last post on Benteke as posted to death on him .The Brighton goal aside he is and has been a waste of money and space. No movement, anticipation, or effort.Unless he takes a big pay cut and used as a squad player, and I mean as a back up striker,We should offload asap .

The way we play we need strikers who can make goals for themselves.

Benteke is finished as a striker both in this league and with this club. He is worthless and we should just face up to the facts and just let him go and save on his massive salary whatever that may be!

There is a good argument that we could build to Benteke's strengths by crossing more, but it's a chicken and egg situation. He doesn't make runs as he doesn't expect crosses, the others don't cross it as he doesn't make runs when they do. On Sunday it was very much the latter, and he also against Burnley when Clyne put in a couple of very useful crosses.

In any event, scoring headers usually adds up to less than 20% of all goals scored, so I would argue that:

1. Benteke needs to do more to get goals outside of relying on crosses to this head.

2. Playing (for example) Zaha on the right wing and asking him to cross it may be a far less useful plan than playing him on the left and letting him cut inside.

That said, I do think that if we had more possession and territory, we could have the best of both. Zaha and Eze can cut inside, and the full backs can overlap and cross it. Mitchell seems quite useful in that respect.

I don't think its a chicken and egg situation. I think its a case of changing attacking tactics to say, right we've got two big target men in Benteke and Matata, lets change our build up play to find space on the wings and whip it in. Now we know the tactics, lets do some work with Benteke and Matata to improve their movement in the box.

At the moment, he's probably not working on his movement as he knows he gonna get many crosses.

I'm sorry but I disagree, Benteke will never be the type of striker that moves and anticipates where the ball maybe landing in the box, he just does not have the pace or football brain that will make him a good all round striker that runs in to the box who can either head, kick or who can just deflect the ball goalwards from all angles and he also never works defenders in order to create spaces for others. Frankly Glen Murray is still a much better and more athletic striker than Benteke will ever be and he is now 38! As for Mateta, we need to see more of him and he is young enough to improve but again we do not need a striker who can not only head a ball we need much more than that otherwise we will become very predictable in our play and easy to counter!

For me the best strikers are the box ones I would call them .For the older ones Gerd Muller leathal in the box .One of the best and most underrated player palace had, was David Kemp now he knew where the goal was in and around the box.Wrighty wasn't bad either.

Couldn't agree more he really doesn't over exert himself for anything, just plods around where he feels like going, just get rid of the useless lump,we need mobility at the front not bloody statues!!
