There is absolutely no question that things could be better with Palace. But that applies to one degree or another up and down this league, and all of the others that make up the football league.
Most common response sack manager,. He has lost team, doesn’t have a clue after years in the game,.This failure is better than ours for some reason, etc, etc,.
Usual result several changes of manager if not a relegation, flirting with one, or even getting more than one relegation.
All to often , tha actual records of other candidates are inferior, or no better than the man you have.
In our case people say Hodgson, should play one potential failure for another if things are going badly,, always after the event.
I say potential failure, simply because this squad have all failed at various times . There is hardly a player even including those out injured that has not been found wanting on to many occasions . Even for substitutions, if the choice, and it often is, to bring on some one that has been crap for weeks it’s no wonder the judgement is it will not change events.
The last two games were woeful, but we were missing at least four of our most reliable players. And it is sadly only to clear we don’t possess to many of those. We had won two of our last four games. We do have 29 points, And with the right people fit Hodgson knows how to win games. He has proved that time and again.
Next year the club has to make its mind up as to not only where it wants to be but how to get there, and quiet frankly if it’s to be much above where it’s been for four years, then it must include the finances to hire a top manager , or top prospective manager, and the resources to attain the class of player all top managers require.
If anyone wants to seriously consider how this works, and how difficult it is to make it work, just look down the A23. Or in a close to the worse scenario , Nottingham Forest, manager after manager , net result not much , presently in the hands of an old campaigner often sacked for not entertaining the masses.

Possibly no better but debatable. Which team would you prefer to watch though?

So because one fan considers a coach to be in the same mould as Hassenhuttl, it is appropriate to compare Schmidt to Southampton’s recent results? I’ve seen tenuous connections and reasons not to take someone on before, but this has to take the biscuit.

I was thinking the same the other day. After Ollie's sweet shop raid in the transfer market with the likes of Kebe and Marange, the players that got us promoted without Wilf scrapped for their lives under him. Think there was a realisation that it was going to be a hard slog just to stay up that they really put in a shift. Doesn't seem to be anything like this around the club at the moment. Hopefully results like at Goodison last night might induce a few players to up their games.

What Pulis did was truly amazing. Especially by finishing 11th. Roy only matched that achievement once, with a far better squad and more games. By comparison, this miracle that tickled pink trolls on about is a clear fabrication.

Pulis also had to deal with an aging squad. Jedinak, Delaney, and Gabbidon where no spring chickens.

Unfortunately for us Pulis and Alladyce showed an ambision that Roy never has, they wanted to achieve something more than just survival and Parish or the business didn't have the resources to back them so they walked.

I'm not conviced the club hasn't had the resources to make a marquee signing over the past few years. Parish has shown he's willing to spend if the club has the money, but Hodgson knows that if he spends big, there will be an expectation to deliver.

Hodgson just wants to get his money grabbing figures on his £4.5m a year and will do the bare minimum to get it. Success isn't something he has shown to crave or desire. He hasn't shown an interest in transfers or building for the future. He passes the buck for signings onto Freedman and won't play youngsters. He's been here 4 years, succession planning of an aging group of players is down to him as much as it is anyone else.

Didn’t fancy another go though once he knew the cheque book was shut. Did he?
It’s not comparable, Pulis cashed his checks, as did Fat Sam, Hodgson didn’t he has roughed it out . If he was a bit younger, he would almost certainly followed the others and saved some reputation.

With respect we are 'On the opposite sides of the house' on this matter.

Mr Hodgson's objective has been to ensure we stay in the PL and thus far he has delivered within tight financial parameters.

In relation to blooding youngsters he did bring AWB into the team and he has added £50 Mill to our coffers ! Furthermore, Tyrick Mitchell has been given his chance.
The notion that we have an abundance of young players 'Knocking on the door' is fanciful and one can understand why Mr Hodgson has relied on his tried and trusted players given the 'Terms of reference' under which he works.

I refer back to my comments concerning an aged squad not being replaced by younger, more vibrant players.

Pulis and BFS had futures and were sought after. If we are using the prefix of Fat then I'm back to calling the geriatrics Woy.

Woy knows he has no future after us and is milking supporters for his pension.

Taking the biscuit is a tad harsh. My point was that Hassenhuttl style of play may look good but is it really. any better than Roy at the end of the day ?

On this Hassenhuttl style, let's get real. It's high octane, high defending, constant pressing, physical stuff. How would our players handle that style exactly? We'd lose ten nil and half our team would have a heart attack.

I did say I don’t think the present team would cope. He was just a name I suggested, at least we may be good to watch. My son has watched his teams a lot, apparently he was possibly in the frame before we went for FDB
