Exactly! When I was a kid black people would take offence at being called black. I don’t know what this country is coming to. I knew he was history as soon as I heard what he had said but it just astounds me frankly.

On all discussions about diversity, racism blm etc older people, and I've stated this cannot change subconciously how they feel or how they were bought up. Together with the language they use. Racism or non PC chat will die with them. They should be cut some slack at times and this is one of those times.
The people castigating him must have such a perfect existence and manor. They need to remember that they have plenty of years to make their own f*** up so that bitch karma could well come knocking in the future! Hopefully in a way they never envisaged much like in Greg Clarke's case.

On the use of "coloured" term, I think this is unfair. Whilst I was told not to say coloured when I was younger, anyone tuning into the news will have seen American's use the term "people of colour" again, and again, and again. I don't think it's that bad, and groups like Kick it Out will lose credibility if that's what they jump on.

On sexuality, his comments are worse, but again, I think he was trying to say that he won't force a player to open up about their private life. Badly worded and a difficult subject. Whilst it shouldn't matter who a player is dating, if a footballer comes out as gay, they will automatically be on the front and back pages of every paper as a roll model and constantly talked about... who really wants that much attention other than David Beckham.

About girls wanting to play in goal, he's might have a point about 8 year olds. Again, clumsy wording.

It seems like these are difficult conversations to have. He has messed up what he was trying to say, but how are we going to address problems, when people are so intolerant of mistakes. All this seems to do is put people off discussing issues.

I heard the BBC interview a female England footballer who’s gay and I’ve never heard of before. I think she might be the captain? Looking at the action videos she dyes her hair at any possibility. She was asked about the USA elections (after CNN announced they think Biden has won) and she said ‘’We need to PUT more black and gay people at the top of politics.’’ Yes she’s just a footballer and not a political expert, but it’s more equality of outcome rather than opportunity again. ‘Put more in’?
