Are you surprised when black schoolkids do very badly? How do we expect to get the next generation of business leaders and professional people.

We have to address the poor educational performance if we can do this the rest will fall into place. I don't believe FTSE companies are being racist but the pool of black talent is limited, we need to broaden and deepen that pool.

Have you seen Whitgift, it's mainly Asian and black kids , your point?

I regularly observe people under-estimating those from ethnic minorities.

When given a level playing field they do well. I just put the first Director onto our Exec from an ethnic minority group. Without my efforts there is almost zero chance that would happen. He needed coaching, support and someone to merchandise him inside the organisation. When he got it he blossomed.

Wouldn't you do that to anyone? Or just because of their ethnicity, sounds racist to me.

Because people always under-estimated him, IMO due to his African roots. I had a huge blow-up with the CEO and forced her to realise what was happening.

They keep doing the same with one of our Care Home managers because she has a strong African accent. She is incredibly clever.

good for her.

and by the same token, we have all worked with pale eejits who talk like Prince Charles and are barely capable of making a cup of tea.

I thought my point was quite clear.

It's no good complaining that black people are discriminated against for the top job if they don't have the qualifications in the first place.

This all starts with education, Mapletree says that the numbers of blacks going to Uni has increased ergo in 20 years time there should be a big talent pool.

If they haven't got the qualifications now then why are people moaning there isn't enough black people in director positions.

It is a fair point, but women have more often than not outperformed men academically, and that isnít reflected in the make up of leadership positions in business.

Nope, not in the slightest. That itís heavily weighted in that direction not through merit alone.

If the latter bothers you why doesn't the former?
