The queues at border control at Heathrow are nothing to do with 'control'. In fact they were 'out of control' due to putting far too few staff on to handle those that were arriving. These were scheduled aircraft arrivals, not just appearing out of the blue and numbers on board these aircrafts were well known in advance. The total lack of segregation between those arriving from India and other areas of much less risk, even green risk areas was a huge and elementary mistake, causing huge potential for virus spread. Why not have immigration much closer to the gates as they do in many other European airports where you will find a handful of immigration booths serving a handful of gates? Everything at Heathrow and Gatwick is designed for those who are paid to work there and not for those who are paying to use them, totally the wrong way around.

Iím so glad you joined this site.

My understanding was that the army would be responsible for the logistics / planning for moving the vaccine around the country.

I assume this meant that AZ or Pfizer would deliver the vaccine to one location and then somebody would need to ensure it was broken down and sent to the various locations. The army may not have actually moved it just come up with the plan.

As you know I volunteer at a vaccine centre I have seen the Army and Air Force medics loads of times they do a good job it's a pleasure to work along side them.

There are also lots of retired medics and other volunteers

Everyone has done a great job

I just am sceptical it was the army organising things. I have seen no sign. The NHS is a big beast that can raise its game when needed.

Whoever is responsible I have been totally impressed with the organisation, from arranging appointment to the well organised vaccine centres.
Keep up the good work Badger

Agreed.

Like I said I don't believe the Army actually organised the vaccine centres but somebody would have needed to plan the logistics for getting the vaccine from the factories to the local surgery. This would probably have been a one off exercise which the army could certainly have done.

In fairness I have not heard the army claiming any credit and I agree the NHS has done well.

One would have thought life experience includes some good times too, amongst the bad.

Yes that's certainly concerning. The number of people 'slipping through the net', and of course when there variants are in the country it's impossible to put that genie back in the bottle.

Astra Zeneca News

Bromley Civic Centre is doing walk ins (no appointment) up to 4pm for the following:

1. First dose if you are over 40.

2. 2nd Dose 8 weeks after first dose. We have several people today who had appointments for 12 weeks and we gave it to them earlier.

Remember a walk in is not a guarantee you will get it and you must fit the current age requirements. But it is handy if you want to speed up the 2nd dose.

So, it's now been announced that there will be a separate terminal at Heathrow for the handling of arrivals from the UK's 'red list' countries. Well, I never, anyone would have thought this was a good idea but weeks too late as usual.
