That's fair. It's never going to be a nice experience being stopped and searched, and it's an intrusive, resource heavy of tackling knife crime. The problem is that no one has presented a effect alternative.

I think it takes a leap of faith to claim that stop and search will create more knife crime. What we have is the ideological looney left refusal to take a pragmatic approach to a problem thats out of control and leaving people dead.

I'd rather people were annoyed and distrustful of the police than stabbed and left to bleed to death.

Guardian readers from then home counties dont seem to grasp the reality of situation as it doesn't fit in with an academic narrative. For them, their priority is to appear tolorent and they couldn't really give a s*** about young black kids dying. They just want something to preach about. The story has moved on from the news now, as Indian Farms or Myanmar is far more interesting for that type of person.

Oh yes I certainly agree that there isn't a simple direct line between the two. I was more thinking about how distrust can factor in to the whole dynamic and do appreciate that a less involved approach also comes with its own consequences.

Yeh watch out for the protests!
the silence is golden and a sign that no whites were the stabbers. Imagine the lammys and abbots getting off on that.

Maybe the government can make all black people millionaires as it appears no white kids are skint according to some!

If my memory serves me right, on another discussion you were saying how lovely croydon was and no less dangerous than anywhere else?

I CONcur, Croydon is as safe as any urban area with a large population, you are absolutely right dan, I am in town 6 days a week, walking about all areas, even the London road to the heath on a Saturday, passing the different groups either side grafting, they never bother me, if you mind your own business, and are over 23, not looking for trouble, you will be fine dan. On the other hand, the stabbing in Coulsdon yesterday might be a different story.Chiselhurst had 2 stabbings Friday night, not sure what happened there either, Wandsworth had 4 Friday, probably gang related I imagine, if anyone doesn"t feel safe in Croydon, may i suggest they don"t come? simples.

Civic pride is all very well but the stats don’t back it up.

You are correct, no idea why i thought over 500k, its only £103 k, plus expenses, not my 600k, but hopefully enough to keep her and her partner Helen in a nice lifestyle, something John Charles might have enjoyed had she not been in charge of that botched operation on that fateful night.

Actually, thanks willo, shes now on £230k, was offered £270k, but only taking the £230k for now, her and Helen can have a Caribbean holiday home on the payrise!

I was wondering what happened with yesterdays coulsdon stabbing, anyone know? I was thinking of buying a place there, but not so sure now, it seems to be getting like anywhere else, remember that poor chap Michael Lavery, beaten and stabbed to death in Reddown road in October? And a woman stabbed a bloke in stoats nest road the year before i think, my pal lives nearby, also the man found in Purley with stab wounds was actually attacked in coulsdon high street last June. I really do think that wherever you flee to, for a better safer life, these incidents will catch up with you, lots of rascals from Croydon have moved out to, of all places, east grinstead, know a few, the trouble you have is if you flee to somewhere like Bournemouth, you get a different type of low life, I know, I just sold up there, almost in-bred, im not joking, father and sons walking about like cloans, strange but true.(great beach thou).

Depends where you go CP. Where I live a recent crime wave consisted of some bigger boys not letting the little ‘uns have a shot on the swings. Concerned citizens and the local constabulary have put things to rights and sorted it before they involved the slide.

Glad to hear it Ted, best not reveal where or you might have a surge of anti Croydon hol"ers clogging up your retreat! My Bournemouth point should have said it also has a terrible drug problem, Boscombe had/has the most drug rehabilitation places in the country, and its only a small place.Don"t get me wrong, the heath is as rough as any urban area in London, but it2s urban- theres the rub! Other parts of the borough are nicer and as safe as anywhere, I walk through the different dealers gangs in West Croydon every day and they never bother with me, don"t even try and push their wares my way, lots of these stabbings in urban areas are drug/youth related, bit like our youth days going to football. I can see these problems spreading thou, as i previously said, look at Coulsdon, that used to be posh back in the day, Caterham to has undesirable parts. Now east Grinstead is getting rough as fcuk, keep your bolthole to yourself Ted if you want to keep it that way.

No, it's not as safe as any urban area - see attached. Yes, although I was born in Croydon, I keep well clear of it unless I have to visit.

The fight where the stabbing in coulsdon happened was in the valley in Hadleigh Gardens off Reddown Road where Michael Lavery was stabbed ‘in a flat off Reddown Road.’ It’s where the recently built flats are tucked away next to the back of and the platforms to the now named Coulsdon Town train station. I don’t know if there are any housing association flats there but there sure will be people renting and when you get a few hundred people together in 1/2 bed flats you’ll get some people up to no good with people coming and going having issues with whoever on a regular basis.

The area in caterham that has a few people with no respect for life or morals is one or two council blocks on Croydon Road which is mainly private flats, private houses and a few shops. A few things have happened with people living there. Otherwise Caterham has so many handy people from older generations who can knock people out or bump into someone again or there isn’t really that much bother, yet. Maybe give it time as more scum either moves into the area or due to generational change. But for now they’re priced out or irrelevant. Most of the flats are so close to the train station they’re not in the cheaper price brackets so office professionals rent them.
