It feels like the most exciting thing about Lampard would be his potential to attract some of Chelsea's players, a bit like how getting Mount on loan at Derby was key to his relative success there. If he came and say brought in Abraham and Zouma then we'd instantly be a better team. Is that likely though?

I do think that if we are replacing Roy we must have a transfer kitty of some sort or why bother replacing him. Some large companies do very well by spending when everyone else is looking to save as it is a buyer's market. It may be that Parish sees it that way too having run a tight ship for the last four years. I think it could be an opportunity to get some cut-price deals, so maybe somewhat contradicting myself the likes of Abraham and Zouma are not beyond us?

We live in interesting times!

Whilst those players would be fantastic, it would not help reduce our wage bill.
I stand corrected, just done some research, Abraham on £82k a week and Zouma on £46k, just shows how we have been overpaying

feels like it was a deliberate strategy to get 'good' players in cheap/free transfers but pay them lots to make them come. Is an easier way to manage business cash flow. But we've now massively screwed our wage structure, which has to be addressed if you look at what quality players are being paid elsewhere. We shouldn't be a charity - a manager like Lamps would at least help build the idea of a 'project' which the right sort of player can get on board with - or f-off if they don't.

It would be some statement if we made two transfers like that, but I also really can't see either of them a) wanting to come here, or b) not having better offers from the likes of West Ham, Everton, or even Arsenal. Of course this brings up the other question that being how much say any new manager would actually have over transfers. Roy has stated repeatedly that he leaves that up to Dougie and Parish, but could you imagine Lampard or Dyche doing that? So many questions, so few answers!

Looking at the age of many of this squad, and the number yet to sign a contract. The matter of who is going to be managing , is hardly our biggest worry.
Surely the biggest problem going forward is how much do we have in the kitty, and how, and who do we spend it on, that is if we have any money.
We can only hope we do have money, and save some more in big earners going, because as others have said, and is quiet frankly obvious , central defence ,and mid-field needs drastic up dating. Without it happening it’s hard to see who will want this job, and that includes Hodgson.

Lampard with his links to West Ham and Chelsea, joining that nuisance from South London - a big gamble and a big no from me. With Howe out of the picture, never thought I would say it, but of the remaining known candidates, Sean Dyche stands out for me.
If Parish does not have a surprise card up in his sleeves, Lampard too much risk with so many (old) players on their way out.
The Burnley gaffer might not be the most wow-like, but a very safe pair of hands.

Apart from being a northerner, surely Dyche is the best candidate. I guess Frank will get Parish more TV time though.

This is true and there’s also an element of stars aligning- how many would have been thrilled if David Moyes had been appointed when he went to WHam?

Lampard surely too much of a risk, whereas Dyche is a safe pair of hands and has the ability to keep us mid table at the very least and is used to working on restricted budget.

Remember similar scenario when Sir Steve Coppell was appointed the rest is history as they say .Dyche will be expensive as compo involved and would probably want a,bigger budget than Frank.

Why do you think Dyche would want a bigger budget than Lampard?
