I'm with you totally on this one Teddy. The clue is in their job title. Number one priority - keep the ball out of the goal. I just don’t get the general emphasis on being 'good with their feet', surely anyone who plays football needs to be good with their feet.

As for their kit - we'll, I know it helps to distinguish them, but pink, really. My 7 year old granddaughter saw some of the game and, in a tone of utter disgust, said 'why is that one wearing pink?'. Teddy, you and I both know that a goalie should wear a green roll neck jumper over black shorts. Proper kit eh?

That said, I think Guaita rates as one of the best keepers we've had. Saved us again last night for sure.

Yep. And a flat cap to complete the look.
I had a friend who got some goalkeepers’ gloves - we thought they were to stop the ball stinging his hands.

There is a psychology behind the bright garish colours. The theory being that he louder and more garish the kit the more obvious and bigger it makes the keeper look and therefore on a subconscious level will make a striker more intimidated and less composed when striking the ball or bearing down on goal.

I promise I've not made this up it is `a thing`

The great Peter Shilton said that he wore white kit back in the day as it made him stand out, look bigger and for some reason seemed to make forwards shoot straight at him a lot of the time, having been somewhat distracted by the shirt.......anyway pink seems to work for Vicente so keep on wearing it!

I recall the bygone days when goalkeepers used their boots to make indentations in the turf in line with the posts to help them with their positioning.

Wasn’t there a rule against them doing that?

Indeed it was not permitted.

Didn't see the match last night. A change of daylight saving at my end and the opposite change at your end meant a 3am weekday kick off for me.

Interested in 2 things:

1 - Not much mention on this thread about Wilf's performance. How was he?
2 - only seen limited highlights but there didn't seem to be a strong reaction from the players when Bats scored. Seemed subdued or did I just missed the good bits?

In fact, he was mobbed by nearly the whole team, including Wilf, who got to him first. But first of all he and Wilf looked very worried, I think in case yet another of Bat's apparent goals had been ruled out for offside. It was great that he judged the offside line perfectly this time!

The right place at the right time

Indeed he has.Thank you.

Apropos goalkeepers, much more is demanded of them in the modern game.In the old days apart from shot-stopping etc etc they just had to clear their lines, nowadays they have to be good with their feet, need the ability to play out from the back so they now have to make decisions when receiving the ball to feet.
Playing long passes like those we have witnessed from Ederson and Pickford to set up an attack are also part-and-parcel of the modern game
.

So they either have to-
A: be able to pass it 10yards to a team mate.
B: Kick it half way up the pitch.

Don't really see how anybody who wants to play professional FOOTBALL should not be able to do either of the above, regardless of their position.

Everton - never has so much money been spent to so little effect.

Have they won anything at all I don't think so.

For all their riches they are usually only a place or two different to us.

Approximately £10 Mill.

In terms of respective PL finishes.

2017-18 Everton 8th, CPFC 11th
2018-19 Everton 8th, CPFC 12th
2019-20 Everton 12th, CPFC 14th.

Currently Everton are 8th and we are 12th.
They are 9 pts ahead of us with a game in hand and will certainly finish ahead of us this season.
