So to sum up the ' candidates ' as put forward by the Media.

1. Eddie Howe. Looked to have no answers a year ago as Bournemouth got relegated. Has been seemingly in protracted negotiations with Celtic. Reminds me of when he played us and Charlton off against one another - before joining Burnley !

I want a manager who wants to come to Palace I don't blame Howe for being coy and playing clubs off against each other but not for me.

2. Frank Lampard. Decent enough job at Derby and a good first season at Chelsea where I think he only got the job because they had a transfer embargo and couldn't attract a bigger name. The required rebuild at Palace could prove to be beyond his limited experience.

Agree it's not just a rebuild which is hard enough, it's a rebuild with no money. I don't see this as a good fit for club or Manager.

3. Nuno. Had to contend with the loss of Jota and Jiminez, but Wolves decline this season was as surprising as it was steep. I think Wolves have been over reliant on Jorge Mendes bringing players in. Totally different scenario at Palace.

It would be great if Mendes did that for us but I think Nuno will be looking for something better than Palace. So many managers leaving big clubs across Europe.

4. Steve Cooper. This would be an appointment along the lines of Potter going to Brighton. Bloom took a risk, and although League position suggests otherwise, ( let's not forget Brighton have finished below us last 2 seasons ), they look ready to push on whereas Palace don't. I'm not sure Cooper has enough about him to play his part in a rebuild at Premier League level.

Realistic choice, to be honest don't know anything about him or if his football philosophy will suit us.

5. Valerian Ismael. Worked wonders at Barnsley and introduced a high energy game. I don't think what will remain of our present squad would be able to adapt to that. Has he got a ' Plan B ' ?

Don't know.

6. Sean Dyche. He's got the experience and has worked with a similar budget to Hodgson. Could he work in Palace's current structure ? It would be a compromise for him. I think he could handle the rebuild, but I don't anticipate the more expansive football that Parish allegedly wants under Dyche. Also question marks over the finances involved in hiring him.

He's my man but does he want to come?

None of the above fill me with either much confidence or excitement. But that could be because I'm missing the ' comfort blanket ' of Hodgson.

If it comes down to simply preserving Premier League status, I think it has to be Dyche.

The problem is that we don't know what is true and what is media or agent spin.

If it is true that Howe is playing clubs off against each other does than not also apply to us playing one manager off over another and if the managers followed your creed then they would all turn us down for the same reason

In fairness Howe reached fairly advanced talks with Celtic and I think we're at least likely to have sounded him out before this.

This whole thing is painful. That there appears to be no succession planning in place to replace a manager who is 73 and an honourable man. It is because of how decent and ethical Roy is that I have no doubt he would have told the club of his intentions a number of months ago.
To then find ourselves in this position - with players out of contract and free agents, getting offers and not knowing if they will have a job with their current employer - with a massive rebuild required is something of a joke. We are often reminded of the skill and ability of the clubs hierarchy as businessmen of some repute - so why are we in this perilous state where information is allegedly leaked (albeit seemingly s***e info). I can only surmise that there may be more to this. Has the club been sold / under offer and the new owner wants a say? Is there a manager in the wings, but simply not been announced? If that is the case that’s poor. If Lampard had been signed up on a three year deal, as has been forcefully stated by the OP (look at the title of the thread) as soon as Roy was official it would have been announced.
I sense a typical CPFC clusterf***.

i understand we all want to know whats going on, bit why should the club tell us anything whilst roy is actually still contracted to the club til june 1st.

it shouldn't affect transfers as they are always slow during a tournament summer so its irrelevant.

these swipes at the owners about bad management of the club, if you think 9 consecutive seasons in the PL is bad management, then that baffles me.

i am confident a manager will be announced pretty soon, especially now that the season is officially done and all games completed.

i just think a bit of patience is needed.

True but according to Parish Howe has form he agreed to join us and then next day joined Burnley.

It happens and I don't blame anyone for weighing up the best option for them I would just prefer someone whose first choice would be to join Palace.

IF Valerien Ismael is given the time & backed in the market, he could be a fabulous appointment for Palace.

Could be a total disaster too. Not worth gambling our very hard earned place in the top division over.
After the De Boer fiasco I doubt Parish will go inexperienced again

My son was talking to someone yesterday, who had been at the play-off final to receive an award from the EPL. He is a Palace fan and has contacts in the game ( but is defo not ITK). He seemed to think Dyche was now our preferred choice. Although he said, within the game, Ismael is building up a very good reputation and consensus is he will go on to bigger and better things. Worth a punt?

The problem with the de Boer "fiasco" is that we gave him 4 games to turn us into Barcelona. Without opening up that can of worms, Ismael is a completely different manager anyway.

It's not just the remarkable (and it really is remarkable) season he's had at Barnsley but also his time at LASK.

I like what I’ve seen of Barnsley last season and I also like the way Ismail conducts himself he’d be a risk - but I’d have him over Cooper all day long.

Also can’t overlook the fact that he picked up a team who narrowly avoided the drop and completely turned them around without spending a load of money.

Sounds like Holloway. Massive difference between the Championship and Premier League
