I think the short answer is 'paying the bills' isn't it? The most recent accounts show how dependent on them we've become, despite our long stay in this preposterous, over-hyped and over financed league.

They have played a part in us staying in the league. The Allardyce transfer window a major one. Issue is they’re always loans and there’s no new stand. Essentially they (just ?) provide cash flow.

The Academy is no doubt something we can be proud of but when it comes down to it will not right now preserve our top flight status in the short term. It does not solve the issue of an ageing team of overpaid under performing players, a manager who is no doubt doing OK with what he has but playing very dull football and a club who sign players which it seems the manager is happy to overlook in favour of his chosen ones. Is this the Americans fault? Probably not Parish runs the club but you would have thought they might be concerned.

However good an academy, if we go down any decent young players will leave for modest compensation when the bigger clubs come calling. As the current manager only turns to youth as an absolute last resort.

As I understand it (which is not always fully) they can't give the club their money, only lend it unless they are spending money on infrastructure. Hence the money for that Allardyce transfer window and for keeping us afloat before we sold AWB and then again during covid have to be loans. Those must be repaid, but I didn't think the Americans took a salary, only Parish.

The one burning question is why they haven't just paid what sainsburys want for their bit of land and got this stand built. Parish has said sainsburys want too much, which I suppose is a fair answer, though like others I tend to think it can't be so much that the Americans wouldn't just pay it if they were determined to build the stand.

Some say they have placed millions in a special ring fenced account that is going to build a beautiful new stand.

Others say they simply allowed three of the initial four investors to reduce their exposure and get a huge chunk of profit.

Others again say they have seen a good thing and along with Mr Parish make a very good living from the club leaving little spare cash to invest in the actual football (or to them soccer) side of things.

Your first point is what we were all told when the Americans came on board and £100m was supposedly ringfenced for stadium redevelopment which as time goes on seems to be more and more unlikely.

Your second point is also true.

Your third point is the difficult one to answer as the accounts are so convoluted with shareholdings disappearing into the mist that no-one really knows what is going on there

They don't take a salary as that would have to be declared in the accounts but there are myriad other ways to extract money from a company if that is what they wanted

Yes, Tim, I know, I know, I did get it, but, apart from

Rap culture....

What else have the Americans done to grow our beloved Palace.

It still seems to me, having started this and reading the responses so far, we don't properly know.

Thing is. Are we or are we not getting value for money?

Dad and I would watch games on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end, probably at the same time as Roy.

The new stand is the very obvious answer to increasing revenue but it hasn’t progressed much at all.

It's all had a cumulative impact. To just dismiss their involvement in also helping us sustain our Premiership status is inaccurate IMO.

There does seem to be something going on there. The planning permission will expire at this rate. I wonder if the business plan is not quite so convincing now that they've seen the club up close, but ultimately if you wanted to increase the value of the asset you wanted to sell, building the stand makes long term sense.

I do wonder sometimes if the board are nervous about putting £100m into a project which will only pay back if we stay up, and which otherwise could be a massive millstone around the neck of a championship club. If we had five or six players under 24 who would command good Premier league transfer fees then there would be some security against the event of relegation, but we all know it hasn't worked that way.

I've made the point before in relation to other subjects, but I'll repeat it here: I trust Parish, and if there is something he is leaving unsaid it's for good reason. There is no doubt whatsoever that when it comes to the stand more and more is being left unsaid.

Very true but why do they use such opaque structures if there is nothing to hide? No doubt to extract money in a 'tax efficient,' way.

Whilst you can only follow the money so far, the gaps are perhaps more telling than anything else.

Blame culture?

That's definitely their fault.

Great scene and dialogue. ‘’You long streak of paralysed p1ss’’ is a highlight. Pierce Brosnan from the IRA points a gun at him at the end in his chauffeured car they hijacked after Helen Mirren gets taken away for her probable execution in another car.

At the start Pierce Brosnan kills Belach from ‘Raiders of The Lost Ark’ playing a London firm gangster after a swim in what he thought was about to be a casual homosexual encounter in the changing area.

Not Colin!

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham
