Good luck Roy. Hope you have done the right thing for you and the club. I would have liked to see one more year and bring someone in. But I guess the haters have had there way. Just be careful for what you wished for....

Announcing he's jumping ship before the crowd turns on him against Arsenal. Typical cowardice by Teflon Roy. Great news for football in England.

The classiest Palace man and manager in living memory imho, epitomised by the way the announcements have been timed and conveyed. It will be a fantastic occassion with fans back at the ground tomorrow to see the players give it all for the gaffer against Arsenal.

Roy thank you for your service.. You achieved what was asked of you. The time however was definitely right for him to step down. Whoever comes in has a hell of a job on their hands, inheriting an aged squad, used to playing very negative tactics and 13 players out of contract... Partly Roy's fault but mainly the boards fault. Interesting times ahead however you look at it and a major rebuild lies ahead.
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

Not surprised but a bitter sweet announcement. Thanks for your superb contribution to our club. You've been a terrific manager. God bless and good luck for the future, whatever you choose to do. I hope we see you at Selhurst occasionally and I'm sure it was you I saw on the Holmesdale terrace when I watched games with my dad 60 years ago. A great guy and you'll be missed for sure.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

thanks for everything Roy. He did indeed bring stability when we really needed it. And it's the right time for Palace to move onto a new chapter. Really excited to get behind a new manager and see what we can do with a fresh approach. That Lewington is leaving as well (despite paper rumours saying otherwise) tells me our new man has clear ideas of how he wants to run things. I've really missed the excitement surrounding positive change at Palace. Fingers crossed it's not an utterly depressing replacement!

Interestingly, the announcement says nothing about retirement. I suspect he might already have something else lined up which would explain the Ray Lewington decision as well.

Good manager, great guy, but the football was dull. Right time to go I wish him all the best and I’m sure he will always be welcome back at Selhurst
