On the commentary they said it was a group of players from other age groups plus probably some family who seemed to also be in that stand. You could see them all move down to the corner once it was decided to take the pens down at that end.

It was really nice seeing all the celebrations and important for younger players to see or experience as it can strengthen their connection with the club.

thanks! A classy touch. Hopefully we're not far of having that sort of chemistry all the way through the age groups to the first team.

I think there is definitely a chemistry between groups, which is great. Slightly worrying was a comment by Jacob Montes when he said, he was welcomed warmly by some but not so warmly by others.

Watching them, placing academy players on the bench yes. But had he any intention to put them on the pitch? Don't think so and I know that our chairman for sure is a big fan of "younger blood".
That's where I got the idea....

Probably not unless he absolutely had to.

Watching the game last night it was clear that there's a few who could be first team material in the future but none who were absolutely ready to be thrown in during the season just gone.

The fact that some got in and around training and the matchday experience is about the best that could have happened imo.

I must have missed that. Where did you hear that? Sounds like a strange thing to say after just coming to a club.

That's the same in football at all levels. You have to earn the respect of your teammates. It was always the way when I played football, and Peter Crouch talked about it in one of his recent podcasts. By all accounts it sounds like it can be mentally tough and that is part of the reason why so many don't make it.

taken from the Washington Post:

Following a week of quarantine in London, Montes was scheduled to train with Crystal Palace’s under-23 squad for a week or two. Impressed by his performance, the club extended his stay.

“A couple guys warmed up and welcomed me. The coaches welcomed me, as well,” said Montes, who, as a teenager, trained informally with Manchester United, among other English clubs. “There were a few guys who didn’t really make me feel as welcome. That’s normal and expected because it’s a competitive environment.”

He returned to Palm Beach County last week to await his loan destination.

Ah thanks for posting. That Washington post article wouldn't open when I tried.

That is a slightly strange thing to mention but I'm sure pretty normal as he goes on to explain himself.

... maybe half the squad with expiring contracts didn't roll out the red carpet for him!

I'd imagine that there is a bit of 'new boy needs to prove he can cut it', which might be harder for a Yank to understand if there's a healthy dose of South London attitude thrown in which we're accustomed to but not outsiders.

Out of interest, which do you think are not a substantial step down of the current first teamer on the pitch?

I'd argue Reece Hannam isn't necessarily a substantial step down from Mitchell, albeit I'd rate Mitchell higher and Mitchell needs the game time now PVA has shifted out the picture so I wouldn't have put Hannam on the pitch. Maybe one of the CBs over Dann. Otherwise, I'm struggling?

What a great night at Selhurst.
Well done the HF and others there for creating a racket. The players certainly appreciated it
