Be very interesting to see if there are any Court cases around this.

I worked at Gatwick for a while and the excuse that was always used about them not enforcing the drop-off zones in the way they should be (I can tell you some HORROR stories about the incompetence of the people who run it) was that the drop off zones in both the North and the South were actually public roads. They simply could not issue their own tickets and up until a couple of years ago had the last official Police run traffic wardens in place.

n fact, one of the main problems was HGV lorry drivers not using commercial sat navs and trying to drive through both terminals with the South, in particular, an utter nightmare because of it.

And now we get this.

Gatwick is essentially a shopping centre with a run-way attached. That is the mentality of the people who run it. You need to stop thinking of it primarily as an airport.

And like all such places, all they ever want to do is somehow stiff people who park there.

Suspect this is purely about them being desperate to somehow bump up revenue and willing to take the risk of all the tickets issued being turned over at a later stage.

I agree that it is in fact a glorified shopping centre and the owners do not give a fig about passengers or staff. In fact the nearest staff car park to the NT has closed and a new multi storey is being built for passengers The ST changed the drop off zone several years ago, so it is now basically incorporated within the multi storey car park, it used to be located in the tunnel under the terminal. This was stopped for “security reasons”

I have a feeling that Stansted introduced drop-off charges some while ago.
I have no idea if Heathrow charge for drop-offs.

I might have dreamt this in a deep slumber but I have a feeling that Gatwick staff can register their vehicle registrations and if they are dropped off for work in the vehicle by a partner etc etc, no charges are levied.
Maybe this is total and utter hogwash.

Birmingham Airport is the best place for drop offs as you can drop people off at Birmingham International station and they can take the monorail over to the airport which is free of charge.

Picking up people from Birmingham can be a bit of a problem though as there is a small car park which is free for 20 minutes but tends to be full of Uber taxis waiting for a fare

Local commuters living within a limited number of postcode sectors close to the airport (RH6 0, RH6 9, RH11 0) with limited access to public transport can apply for a permit which covers two visits per day to use the train station by paying an annual £50 charge. The scheme is now open to applicants, and will apply from 12 April when drop off charges begin in South Terminal.

For Staff

Anyone who holds an ID to work at the airport can apply for an exemption from the drop off charges. To apply, complete the Forecourt Access Request form and submit this to your authorised signatory.

Thank you very much.
I have never used Birmingham airport for flights or to collect or drop-off passengers.
Only flown from/to Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton.

LOL. Such a wasted piece of land now. But the terminal building itself is still quite a pleasant place to while away an hour or so over a coffee.

An asset that Croydon, like so much else, seems to fail to make the most of.

What a brave lady.
I'm afraid I wasn't even on this earth when Amy Johnson tragically died in 1941.
I was born in 1952, and my dear wife keeps asserting "You will be 70 next year" !

It is wasted indeed. Always thought prime site for our new stadium but unfortunately traffic congestion would rule this out
