Heading for recession, when growth is less than a Covid hit 2021.

Did that magically happen then? Or was a government with a majority in place when it did..

The government in power with a majority decided on the policy (and then didn't bother following it), as such they largely responsible for it, was my point.

Sweden took a different approach and still have staggeringly high inflation; it's a global issue with no way that. That said certainly fewer lockdowns may have made a positive difference to the economy.

All in all, a mix of Brexit (which I voted for but am realistic about), Pandemic, and now Ukraine have put us where we are. There was very likely no way out of recession, though possibly somewhat the severity of it.

And even with us, problems being that post Brexit, the government just finds another way to rejig the system to keep immigration coming thick and fast. Just more often from outside of EU countries.

And the Government were criticised by the Opposition for not locking down sooner, harder and longer.
You're right though that a combination of events have created something of a perfect storm.

Oh yes, I certainly doubt it would've been much different whoever was in. Was more a decision about how many lockdowns rather than if it would happen. PPE contracts and the like were likely a nice incentive too.

Definitely a perfect storm, of global and national factors that even in a best case scenario was going to be very sh!itty. Now it's more a case of how terrible things will get. Anyones guess really, though it's not looking pretty.

There was always going to be an economic impact unless you completely ignored covid but yes....in my view....Sweden treated their population far more like adults instead of children.

The economic impact was lower as a result but it was always going to be there.

Do you think I support this government? (or it’s “opposition”)

I think you support troops that then shoot civilians to loot half a bottle of scotch.
