It's not an either-or, and it's also very much system dependent. We have plenty of creative players - we score goals and create chances in nearly every game and Eze doesn't play in most of them. Players like Eze can also be the difference a draw and a loss. Bruno Fernandes is a great example of a player who is wonderfully creative, but also fantastic out of possession - he averages over 20 pressures per 90 mins, Eze is averaging about 13. Great example of the type of player Eze can become.

He may not be great out of possession and he can work on that. I would argue it's much harder to teach someone to be good on the ball. I genuinely have never seen a Man Utd game where I've thought Fernandes contributed much defensively, other than fouls. I shall watch more closely next time. I think I've just been getting frustrated that a player that most people seemed to be talking about as a future great last season suddenly seems so disposable to some people before he's had a decent run in the team. I also think it's sad that there are also some people (I'm not pointing the finger at you btw) who seem more excited about big transfer fees than great players. Maybe that's to do with football management games?

If Newcastle offers silly money (75 mill. plus) the club should consider selling. But I think most of the fans would prefer an Eze in the team and not the money.

I actually agree that talent like Eze's is much harder to teach, which is why I have no doubts he'll end up a top-level player - he'll get the hang of the easier, off-the-ball stuff, but I do understand why Vieira is hesitant to lean on him too much currently. I also agree with your broader point; I don't think I'd sell him unless it was silly money, and agree I'd rather have a player like Eze to go and watch than £40m sat in the bank.

He did rank in the bottom 10th percentile for many defensive stats, in case it looks like I'm glossing things over! I think we all want Palace players to succeed whomever they may be, so let's hope we do see the Eze of the end of last season and Newcastle bugger off to plunder other clubs.

Eze is judged by that one great game he had last year where he ran through 8 players to score. Aside from that, he didn't do that much last year before he had the catastrophic injury. I was high on him last season, but this season, not so much. He has to prove he's over his achilles. If we were more comfortable above relegation, I'd like to see Eze start many matches in a row, so we can see if he is for real or not.
