There should be someone in that position regardless of whether it’s a sub or Riedewald and the player should be putting it away. That goal had nothing to do with the substitution. In the early part of the season PV’s subs were genius. Not at the moment.

His Standard sub was Olise - who is now pretty much a mainstay part of the starting 11... someone like him is always going to show his class.

really Wanted Eze to come on instead of Gallagher - Who I don't think had his best performance. Ran round like a headless chicken a little - bar a good cross, all he acheived was diving into tackles - giving away free kicks outside our box!

We have conceded 13 goals from set-pieces, we are vulnerable at crosses and we look far from convincing at the back.

I welcome the constructive approach and understand the way in which Vieira wants to play but from a personal perspective I am disappointed in the way in which we defend and get a tad nervous whenever we concede a corner or a free kick in wide areas.

As I said previously, the majority of goals conceded from set pieces were earlier in the season, so we have improved. Personally I am more confident with our defence than I am with our midfield/forwards.
Let’s not forget the team is in transition, we are not and never will be world beaters, let’s just enjoy being where we are and cut out the weekly negativity

That was the worst display by us for a long time.

Why is PV not playing Eze? It is becoming obvious that something is going on there.

You could see how much Mitchell contributes to the team.

Five substitutes used.
Shows the advantage possibilities for the better teams (on paper). so if this was allowed in Premierships, look how top teams could change half the outfield team during the match.
We needed 5 last night!!!

Just for a bit of perspective:

Middlesborough are 8th in the Championship, just 3 points ahead of Millwall and took a lacklustre Tottenham side to school last night who are now out of the cup, after extra time.

We beat 'wall in the last round, put in a lethargic and uninspired performance against Stoke, on the proverbial wet Tuesday night, and still managed to go through despite the minimal effort.

I agree entirely with many of the negative comments on here however I am reluctant to read too much into it. I've seen many a very good Palace performance, especially in recent years, which have still left us languishing around the relegation zone and non-competitive in cup competitions.

I am at this stage unwilling to contribute to any criticisms or pessimism given the status quo. We ourselves are still far from the finished article and I would rather be a (working) work-in-progress than constantly changing managers or spending masses of money on players who appear to be failed mercenaries at best, take your pick: Watford, Everton, Man U, Spurs, Newcastle etc etc.

Cheer up fellas, tis not all doom and gloom at the Palace right now! I will always harbour anxiety around impending doom, whether imagined or realistic, however feel we are a lot further from this atm then seasons past. Posted similar sentiments recently so apologies for a repeat performance if that is the opinion.

I was at the game last night. I must agree with you on our performance. We would have no chance against better opponents if we continue to play like that. In almost every game, playing from the back with all those sideways and back passes only gives the opposition defence time to to regroup.

Not excusing the performance. But it was evident that we weren't at our best.

Personally I wouldn't worry about it, if we played like that every week we'd get battered. We don't, we up our game when needed.

Well after that game i slept well mainly from kick off , but as someone said in a earlier post 1990 cup run we didnt play well untill the semis ,we was not great against cambridge in that run.

The weather played a big part , rain like that is a great leveller who ever adapts to it best wins , and both sides had issues ,
passing was poor but think thats todo with ground conditions.

was surprised at the team and subs but it worked , so we have a lucky manager that helps , how many games we lost because we didnt have anyluck ,

yes Liverpool that was nothing todo with luck
Young kid looked ok , we have a bench of choice rather thats all we have , Eze will get more game time so dont read anything else into why we didnt use him , upfront we need to look at what we want , we all know Wilf but he is not really doing what the old Wilf did (yes he has scored but would we score more), so i would play Edouard in place of as he is more direct with Mateta and Olise , Wilf is a great option to have .

big issue is for once we have to much talent , think it would take a Pep or Klopp who have had this luxury of talent to pick to make it work , so give Pat a chance to work it out,

Looking forward to Wembley COYP

I'm not even sure we had as such a bad game A people were Making out.

Seemed like we had a lot of the ball, and for 2/3rds of the game Butland didn't have huge amounts to do.

The only thing That really frustrated me was lack of forward passing and the odd careless pass; the only way we got up the pitch was for Someone to make a burst forward. Ayew and Olise did this a lot. - Ayew seemingly never had an end product to his runs.

This is us at the moment - we allow teams to re-organise by slow passing build up, then have no way of breaking them down, and it's this we have to change.

Think the defenders did ok, not convinced by Anderson and Guehi, but they did their jobs well last night. Tayo looks a good prospect, Clyne was the weak link.

The equaliser also made PV react. no way schlupp and/or Conor was coming on had they not equalised.

Kinda get The subs; Schlupp was to shore up the defence(after all the cross came from Tayos side), whilst at the same time adding his direct running to the attack (although at LB didn't really see the attacking side of hie play!)
CG was a like for like for Ayew, really. though as said previously, I would have liked Eze in there, but I dare say we would have seen that had the score been 1-0.

no idea why Mili and Jairo came on at 1-1. seemed incredibly negative at the time, even though it eventually paid off. Maybe it was a premeditated decision to add bit to the midfield in the closing stages of the game.

Finally, it's a Cup Game - against 'lesser' opposition looking to upset one of the PL-leaguers. the last 1/3rd of the game was always going to be tough. especially after we let them immediately equalise. Form often goes out the window.

Jairo came on to play LB to allow Schlupp to push forward. Why he did not just replace Tayo with Jairo I cannot answer

I did wonder that at the time - but then dismissed it after jairo sat on the edge of the box for his goal. figured that's not where I'd expect an LB to be !

I'd presume that at that point in time he wanted to add a bit more attacking threat and help for Wilf.
