If ever proof was needed as to why there are so few contributors to the politics section of this site, this morning's contributions to this thread are it.

If you come on here asking stupid disingenuous questions then you are likely to get stick.

You might have noticed that some of us on here receive constant abuse for our opinions. I would suggest that if you post on any political forum, you will not prevail for long if you are a snowflake.

Whereabouts in Coventry did you live, I am a Cov boy myself and still follow their results although been supporting Palace since I moved to London in 1986?

I lived in Bilney and for quite a while was a regular at Highfield Rd when Cov were in Div 1. I was right in front of Ernie Hunt's famous donkey kick. They had quite a team back then. I had a mate who worked at the Jag and we went drinking in some pretty scary pubs in the city. Then I moved back closer to London with my job and was able to resume going to Selhurst regularly. Getting there from Cov was a nightmare in those days!

I know Binley reasonably well, I was born in Whoberley which is about 3 miles from the Jag. Ernie Hunt and Willie Carr, brings back memories. Ian Wallace and Mick Ferguson, Tommy Hutchison on the wing.

Yes, some entertaining City pubs for sure, the Penny Black and the infamous Tally Ho, followed by a late evening in Tiffanys or Park Lane if we were going upmarket!

And there you have it lol.

Why snowflake? For asking people to back up their opinion? For wanting to share views? If I was a "snowflake", you would have scared me off already with your disrespectful antagonism yet here I am.

Yet here I am

We're not enemies, Hrolf, just people with different opinions.

For you to talk about receiving abuse is genuinely funny, fair play - you are the most aggressive poster I've encountered on any internet forum and have zero interest in even the most basic of common decency.

Oh, stop it.

No,I won't have that. There's a bloke in Eastbourne.

So you claim that I'm an aggressive poster and then make an aggressive attack on my character?

OK.

Meanwhile, GBN is still broadcasting and picking up more and more viewers.

So you have been a member since January 2013 with only 600 posts to your name and when you do decide to enter the arena that is the politics forum, you ask a load of daft questions and then spend your time playing the victim.

What you haven't done is express any options that are worth debating.
When you do, perhaps they will receive a better response.

This will be my last reply on the matter.

Get back to the thread topic.

I don't doubt that the term "gay" was in the OED, but just like "woke" was a slow burner and only became part of the common language much later.

Yep it used to be.
bender, bum bandit, Queer ( yanks still say this btw)
fudge packer, and gay boy (ironic) to name a few.

Actually its used to describe the biases of those who are woke.

The preconception that they and their like are correct and anyone that disagrees is wrong to the exclusion of all other opinions with no discussion permitted.

Whether this in an example of wokeness or not…it’s an example of something.

There is a lot of comment here about why being "woke" is a negative aspect of modern life.
In other threads, attacks are made on the so-called "cancel culture".
From time to time, there are outbursts of outrage at the "grooming-game" scandal and allegations of failures by the police and social services.
The way the BBC failed to spot/deal with Jimmy Savile's abusive behaviour is another frequent topic.

I make no comment on any of the above, and don't seek to open those discussions again here.

Right now I am watching the Channel 5 documentary "National Treasure, National Disgrace. This deals with Savile, Rolf Harris, Garry Glitter and Stuart Hall, the way they were regarded during their years of fame and the way their crimes were exposed by a changed society.

If you are too, I would be interested in knowing your reaction. If you aren't, I encourage you to.

My initial reaction is that this raises questions about how the attitudes about "woke" and "cancel culture" fit with the way our attitudes towards these paedophiles have changed over the decades.
