i saw an interview with Terry Wogan. He confided that pretty much everybody in the BBC knew what a monster Jimmy Savile was.

....and that tells you everything you need to know about the BBC.

You make it sound like a mouthpiece for the Gestapo.
Like I said, you feel that way because we have been fed a diet of Leftist, liberal, woke brainwashing for many years.

On GBN you hear Black people saying what they actually think instead of following the herd. You get a balance of opinions instead of one side being cancelled.

It's no surprise that you prefer the latter.

I agree with you Hrolf. Whilst the channel is strong in it's non PC messaging, it does try, more than the main news channels, to offer a balanced view of events.

Personally, I find it quite refreshing.

One thing I would say is that it's hard to deny the identikit nature of the main news channels. They often cover the exact same stories even though there's plenty of other angles or issues that could be addressed.

I see certain pitfalls in a new channel trying to 'make an impact', but at the same time, there are civil liberties, privacy, protest rights issues that none of the main channels ever want to address, and that go under the radar. A bit too hand in glove with government.

When we see where these issues can lead in say Russia, we're pretty disgusted, but have been trained to roll our eyes when we take steps down that same road at home. So regardless of the politics, I would hope that a new channel might pick up the mantle in areas such of this, and shine enough of a light that it then gains wider attention and momentum.

Could you expend on this particular comment, please?

Firstly, could you specifically describe what you consider 'woke' to be?

Then, which specific elements of 'woke' are you writing about? Could you describe exactly what elements people are being 'brainwashed' with?

That would be helpful.

GB News isn't very right wing at all.....The idea that it could be thought of as a right wing equivalent of the Morning Star nearly had me choking on my tea.

People who misrepresent what others say remind me of the Daily Mail.

I didn't say that GB News was a right-wing equivalent of the Morning Star. I said it wouldn't be mainstream because it targets a minority audience. I could have chosen "Beekeeping in the Fens", as an example but, as this is the politics forum, didn't.

To quote what you wrote, 'GB News has its place, but I predict it will never be mainstream. Just as the Morning Star will never be a mainstream newspaper, it appeals to a very specific and restricted audience.'

I'll let others decide as to whether my comment was a misrepresentation.

Why does not being mainstream make it a mouthpiece for the Gestapo.

You are biased. You know it. I know it. You confirm it with the "diet of Leftist, liberal, woke brainwashing for many years" comment, which is the attitude of the right.

So you like GB News because it appears not to be the things you don't like. Fine. That's up to them, but it won't appeal to the mainstream. Whether to enough to make it viable, only time will tell.

That some "black" people agree with you only proves what I have been saying for a very long time. People are people. The colour of their skin doesn't impact their capacity to think. Or be wrong.

As there seems to be a norm of asking others to do extra work could you please fetch my slippers for me and specifically do two marmalade on toast and a nice cup of tea.

Thanks.

Many people felt there was something very odd about Savile, but the fact it was ignored for so long says much more about the whole society back then than it did just about the BBC.

You know what is also true.

Causation always contains correlation.

What I've stated is just reality....it's pretty much only the left and centre pushing for the maintaining of the BBC. It's similar to what we see here on Hol.

The right saying that the BBC must change and the only people arguing in its defence are on the centre or left.

No one's fooled.

Edited by Stirlingsays (30 Mar 2022 12.37pm)

That's just poor logic.

Like I said, there's a lot more context to people's views on the BBC - to a lot on the left, I expect the will is there to reform it because they recognise what the BBC represents in terms of a more global Britain, they see the rest of the Tory-controlled tabloids and understand the value in a news agency which is *in theory* protected from government and corporate interest.

The right have been pumped full of anti-BBC propaganda through Murdoch's tabloids for decades (I wonder why he might want rid of the BBC, hmmmmm) so the sentiment that it's flawed at it's core runs deeper.

Brexit is also a huge part of it and it's no surprise there is a huge correlation between people who voted leave and have a permanent chip on the shoulder about being called stupid, and those who vehemently hate the BBC. The Hol will also prove that.

Considering you turned up on this site describing yourself as a 'one nation conservative'(which everyone knows was absurd and dishonest) anyone who took you at face value would be surprised at your apparent lack of support for GB News.

Though perhaps even you are more right wing than Tom Harwood.

Fine. Others will no doubt note the complete absence of any reference to "right-wing" in that quote. Which was the misrepresentation made.
