This is all so ridiculous.

Those rules were outrageous in the first place.

Rather than all the anger over hypocritical politicians....shocker that one.....people should be punishing them for those rules in the first place.

At the time, as I remember very well, the rules said that if possible you should work from home.

If not you should socially distance at work as much as feasible and try not to face others.

The rules also said that whilst working it was recognised that people may need to eat, especially if working late. They could do so within the office environment but not share a meal, they had to have their own food and drink. It was VERY clearly stated.

So as far as I can see Starmer did nothing wrong. I understand that Durham Police immediately wrote off any question of reviewing this when it was raised by a Conservative MP.

Compare that to people who lived at their work place, could have eaten in their flats but instead chose to join in with a party, not simply taking food at work. Ridiculous claim to make that they are in any way equivalent

But why were Labour so intent on denying she was present?

Sorry but the two things are not really comparable. Johnson was the one making the rules. Standing up and telling people they could not attend funerals and the like. And to then be enjoying a jolly inside number 10 is simply not on. It was appalling leadership, no matter how much you want to get into the nit-picking around the rules. Utterly disgraceful on and every level.

Now I loathe Starmer and Rayner, and suspect they would have done the same if they had been in power with their own lock-down 'indiscretions' proof that they cared little for the details themselves but they were not in power. What Johnson allowed, and took part in, is truly abhorrent.

You want a reason to slate Rayner though then the story about her seeming to deliberately set up this 'GrowlerGate' narrative is really not on at all.

They are all despicable. I have never despised a political class more than I do this current shower of s***-c***s.

Well, they donít want Mrs Starmer to find out about the affair. Since Angela separated from Mark sheís been gagging for it. You donít think she wore that easy access dress with no knickers in the Commons for Borisís benefit do you? When she crosses her legs Keir is no longer able to ask questions as he canít stand up for fear of standing out.

As above Durham was not an indiscretion from a Covid perspective and no, I donít actually believe he would have acted like BoJo. Pretty much nobody would

Let's agree to disagree. But never forget that Starmer was the primary mover behind moving Labour to a second referendum position that was a nailed on guarantee of ensuring Labour lost any general election with it as part of its manifesto. And then who blatantly lied as part of his leadership campaign given what he said he would support.

And then who suspended the membership of a man whose leadership he had risen to prominence under.

He is just as much a scumbag as Johnson. Same meat, different gravy.

Definitely.

I'm still chuckling about the 'growlergate' description.

I disagree with you on certain areas, but it has to be said this is a very principled stance. The 'but look over there instead' of punch and judy politics leads us nowhere because it validates everyone sinking to the lowest level. Johnson mugged off the nation and looks to have got away with it. Not a healthy situation and will rightfully erode trust in government going forward. The ultimate do as I say, not as I do brigade.

Starmer's interview with Sophy Ridge was a shambles, generic platitudes and no specific policies apart from windfall tax but even then he didn't specify how much it would raise.

He's all moans and groans but no solutions.

He wasted so much bandwidth on partygate when the public had lost interest and wanted to hear about cost of living and energy prices.

Erode trust? Anybody who trusts Government is a fool. 19 years ago the invasion of Iraq was in full swing. Based on a lie formulated by a Labour Government. Now we have Johnson.

People need to realise that Johnson is not the cause of the problems with our system. Our system created him. He is just the latest kind of vomit that our toxic body politic has spewed up. Johnson came to power on the back of promising to honour what was perhaps the single biggest expression of democracy this country has witnessed. That referendum in 2016 had every vote equally weighted and produced a clear majority. Our system then did its very best to reduce that to nothing.

Anybody who thought that attempting to usurp that decision was a good idea played their part in allowing somebody like Johnson to come to power. He genuinely was the only valid option in December 2019 but it gave me zero sense of satisfaction to cast my vote for the Tories because given they have been in power since 2010, have happily passed all kinds of legislation that flys in the face of what it actually means to be a Conservative.

I detest the entire system now, hence for the first time ever, I will be destroying my ballot paper on Thursday.

Perhaps so

But I take issue with the logic that Johnson is nothing special

He is an arrogant, incompetent serial liar

For some reason the British people continuously choose to forgive that, even when the incompetents with whom he surrounds himself fail to deal with crisis after crisis, often of their own making

Then they claim we are world leading in getting vaccinations done so itís all OK. Which is simply another lie.

Brazil has done better than us FFS.

You really do like to make yourself look stupid.

The idea that one politician lies more than another is purely a sort of arms race where we all know politicians continuously lie, so now the only possible advantage is to claim that some lie more than others.

Utterly ridiculous.

The reason why the people side with Johnson is because they know that the alternative is completely unacceptable.
