Beergate is going nowhere

It is a desperate attempt by the Daily Mail and its allies to rescue Johnson through deflection

It will fail as there was no wrong-doing

Telegraph is breaking that Durham police are re-investigating beerandcurrygate, so if Starmer called on Johnson and Shunak to resign after being fined then presumably if he and/or Rayner are fined they would resign, oh dear , how sad, never mind

Starmer himself said the attendees were rotating through the kitchen to help themselves, i.e buffet style. Whoops

As more comes out this is what may be called "pant pi$$ingly funny "

Whatever the result of any police action, why did Labour repeatedly lie about Rayner being at the function. Whatever the reason, no one is buying the " honest mistake " excuse. Beergate is morphing into currygate, will the composite be Fridaynightgate?

he shoots, he scores

There is a little bit of chatter, interestingly from a couple of left-wingers albeit ones who are not best chuffed with Starmer, about there perhaps being a bit more going on with these Durham drinks. Talk of perhaps a late-night buffet and similar. Now in and of itself, then relative harmless but far more in line with what Johnson was fined for than just Sir Keir swigging back a cheeky little lager to wash down his chicken korma after a hard day on the cobbles.

To be honest I don't care about any of this Johnson or Starmer however in politics if you accuse somebody else you had better be sure you are not guilty of the same thing.

We have serious problems which calls for serious politicians with serious solutions, what we have got is the Muppet show.

I predict this will all fizzle out.

The rules at the time said you weren’t to share food, you could eat your own food at work

So, as I recall, if this was a buffet then it shouldn’t have happened. They should each have ordered independently

But I do wonder what the new information is. Perhaps Rayner and Starmer did a Lady and the Tramp with a roti.

This highlights the absurdity of the rules. You can have a work meeting mix with people but not eat cake or have a beer...

I think most of us would call a party music, dancing, drinking etc however Johnson made the rules so he and Starmer should have stuck by them.

I get why people are angry but how many of us broke those rules knowingly or otherwise. I know I did, I went for more than a 1 hour walk in the open on my own, that was a stupid rule who was I putting at risk.

I agree

But the food rule was perfectly manageable if little known.

You would think Britons would have more to be concerned about.

Everybody who has huffed and puffed about partygate and enjoyed the sanctimonious " resign " hypocrisy and lying of Starmer will now either keep quiet or come out with some claptrap as to why he shouldn't resign if he is fined ( and Rayner ). Simply to chirp Johnson hasn't resigned is not good enough.

When he is fined I shall call him Karma Starmer.

Humble pie korma anyone?

Diane Abbott has already said he should resign if fined, always liked her

Starmer putting his head in the noose before he is sentenced.

He is guilty as hell and he knows it.

The hypocrisy is of a new level.
