i would avoid Ireland. It's even worse. Our St Patrick's day parade seems to have expunged the Saint himself or any reference to Christianity.

just a big Lefty extravaganza.

PV, let us know who"s kidnapped you and we can organise a rescue mission- have they stolen your passport? Got you in shackles? Why oh why they won"t let you leave the country is a mystery- come home PV, we need more people like you!

OK, so tell me exactly what it is that stops us controlling our borders?

You are suggesting a hypothesis that goes deeper than just politics or environment. You are saying that our destiny is not in our own hands, even at the simplest level.

That sounds quasi religious. Are you sure you want to go with that?

To start with, we have over 11,000 miles of coastline to be patrolled day and night, 365 days a year. We have constant truck and car traffic, not every part of which can always be scrutinised for stowaways. We face organised gangs ready to adapt tactics. Patrol the straits of Dover, and they would just switch to using larger vessels to bring illegals just outside our territorial waters further up the coast and then launch them in RIBs. We are bound by international treaties on refugees.

This is a problem to be tackled at source and not by trying to build a Trumpian wall in the sea.

Many things are not in our hands. Learning to accept that and then work hard on what is, makes much more sense. Nothing at all religious-like involved. Just common sense.

the Tories/Labour have talked good words, and done absolutely NOTHING on immigration.

I'm sorry Wisbech but that is just daft. Don't tell me that we can't control our coastlines and that we can't just deport people back to where they arrived from.
The only thing stopping that is the decisions of people. There is no inevitability. The same applies to legal migration. It could be stopped overnight if there was a will.

Imagine if we applied your wisdom to other historical problems.

It's always easy to think every problem can be solved by waving a wand when you sit at a keyboard.

Just as opposition politicians promise jam tomorrow, or Brexiteers a golden dawn of opportunity, the realities are always different.

It's you who is daft. Can you imagine the resources we would need to deploy to "control" 11,000 + miles of coastline, only to realise that as soon as a refugee enters our waters they become our responsibility? I suppose you would want us to ignore our international obligations, the consequences of which could be very damaging to an already fractured reputation.

Stopping legal migration is neither practical nor wise. It would have to apply both in and out and would result in chaos, as well as misery and unfairness. It will never happen.

I should start by saying that I am an atheist and that those who protest and cause injury and death in the name of some mythical deity is anathema to me. I am also seeking to avoid the whole immigrants - why are they here - debate as that is not the point I am making even if it is what many on here may be thinking.

However, you still need to understand why and there is little of that on this thread.

Conservative rural pakistan is a step back to the late middle ages in terms of the power and control of religion. Many of those protesting will be 1st or 2nd generation from there with those deep rooted traditions and values. It would be odd to expect them to have assimilated so quickly into our modern and enlightened society. That will take much more time. Remember, it was only a century ago when people were locked up for blasphemy and you could also be prosecuted for obstructing a clergymen in the course of his clerical duties.

Add to that is their heightened sensitivity and minority status. Not only do they have those values but they will fight for them too.

And so to why. One of the Ten Commandments is pretty clear to the Islam world. No false gods. Hence there is adornment in Muslim culture and much beauty in Mosques; but absolutely no idolatry. This includes any image of Mohammed which is banned as it might provide a distraction to the worship of Allah, the one and only true God.

That extends to moving images which are considered blasphemous. Hence the protest.

Backwards, yes, wrong, certainly; but you will not change the minds of those protesting as this is absolutely to the core of their existence.

We would not need to patrol 11000 miles of coastline as you know full well.

Now you are talking about international obligations. Those obligations are created by men not by evolution or environment or any other kind of uncontrollable force.

All it takes to stop this is a consensus among Western countries that a united front to protect their borders is the way forward.

Right now, globalists are making the exact opposite happen for they own ends.

the immigration of single young men (religious fundamentalists) into the West will continue unabated. Until the West is transformed into another Third World.

At which point the impetus for said immigration will have ceased.

Crime, homelessness, grooming-gangs, a failed health service, religious sectarian strife........ you aint seen nothing yet.

We are headed toward a new Dark Age. 500 AD in Western Europe...reborn.

Best place to live : any small fishing village in Iceland.

Worst place : London, Paris, Berlin, Madrid

An amusing satirical bit by Patrick Cristys on GB News last night.

A mock protest about the new Jurassic Park film staged outside the Vue cinema Shepherd's Bush.

Made me smile.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

People who don't like the country they live in come to the west and want to turn the west into the country they just left and didn't like.
