I'm not saying that judges should overrule a jury's verdict. I'm saying that when the death penalty was the only sentence for those found guilty of murder, juries would acquit if they had the slightest doubt or sympathy. The judge determining whether the death penalty is appropriate is what I am proposing.

Okay - understood. But I still feel queasy about one man (or woman) deciding whether or not someone should be executed.

Think of it as putting down a dangerous dog who killed someone. No use, no hope, what a waste of oxygen!
That arse wipe who killed would get me applying for the job. Needle rope or death of a thousand cuts.

That is my issue with capital punishment. In principle I am okay with it but I need to understand the mechanics e.g. who makes the decision.

I also believe the public should have a vote on this and other matters.

Sounds like you've got the makings of a new Saturday evening entertainment programme there Badger. Something like "Ant and Dec's Execution Party" where the public choose their favourite executioner and method from a weekly panel.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

That’s too quick for me some serious consideration would need to go into it.

I’d like to see big brother style, plenty of time to get to know and understand each one, 24/7 surveillance would see to it, with somebody voted ‘out’ every now and then. Also, new participants would inevitably be entered from time to time.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I think that’s like Saudi law

Sorry not what I meant. I meant the public should be allowed referendums on important topics e.g. capital punishment / immigration not voting a death sentence ala "the Hunger Games".

I found it hilarious the description of him was based purely on the clothes he was wearing… as if he’s some sort of cartoon character.

You can see the BBC exec saying ‘the picture is up there we don’t need to risk anything ourselves’.

I've had (many years ago - I couldn't be bothered now) stand up rows with people who considered it racist to describe a person in a group they are referring to as "black". My debaters were not black people you understand. Black people are justifiably happy with their skin and couldn't possibly consider that offensive. No, well meaning but idiotic white people.

As I’ve quoted Malcom x before “why is the head of the snake white”.
Black people don’t mind being called black in my experience. In my younger days we called people half cast as they were mixed race which is a fairly new description. Now that’s derogatory but the police call different colours of people an IC number.
1 is white 2 is mixed race 3 is black 4 is Asian 5 is Far East Chinese, Japanese 6 is Arab or North African 7 is unknown so the descriptors are out there. Would the woke prefer that in normal everyday talk?

Not nearly.

Let’s hope he receives similar treatment in prison.

10 years is a joke, should be life without parole-minimum!
