I think she did have her doubts about Charles but I don't think that was her reason for hanging on. It's all about her coronation oath, before god and country she vowed to serve all her life. The queen was very religious asking her to abdicate because she was getting on was never going to happen.

Its why the gap between now and Charles's enthronement is so important. Parliament needs to tell him that the monarchy must change and retirement should be seen as normal he should not be allowed to make a similar oath as his mother. Even the Pope retires.

already has at least informally

The Pope doesn't retire in fact, but a small number have resigned.

It's thought that there have been about 260 Popes since St Peter, and only 6 of those are known to have resigned - 5 between the 10th and 15th centuries and 1 in the 21st century.

By comparison, there have been 61 monarchs of England and the United Kingdom, 3 of whom have abdicated. So the monarch "retiring" is more frequent than the Pope doing so.

There's a definite attempt to rehabilitate Meghan's reputation in the UK currently. She may well have accepted Charles' olive branch, as after all, Meghan and Harry have been terrible at producing anything they were contracted for.
I guess, conversely, if Meghan acted up now - there would be no going back.

And a lot will depend on the contents of his so far unpublished book. There may be some editing and amending going on.
Personally I'd prefer they cut out some of the dead wood rather than add to it.

I saw " Deadly Weapons " as a teenager some where near Leicester Square. Quite the eye opener. Them was the days.

While the late Queen reigned over a period of public services being sold to private companies, and environmental degradation, the royal family enjoyed unique tax advantages.

King Charles will not have to pay inheritance tax on any of his mother’s assets.

Why not, isn't he rich enough probably many times over.

We won't be pursuing such matters at a delicate time, but its not just republicans who see this as very poor behaviour.

As usual you are spouting word salad without any understanding of how the fiscal process of the monarchy works. There was a clue i Charles' accession speech.

You might enjoy checking how much inheritance tax the estate of Anthony Wedgewood-Benn paid after lobbying by Hilary Benn.
