Badger - I agree with some but not all of the above.
I do hope that William gets the job sooner or later that's for sure.
I also think that immediate Royals - Andrew excluded -are huge figures for tourism etc and so I think they should still be employed but no doubt some need to be cast aside.
The male/female thing needs changing as well.
Good points!

It already has changed, William's 3 are all 'in-line' for the throne. Like you, i also don't fully agree with Badger, but, he has made some good points.

Andrew-type tourism can all go off to some other country. Somewhere far-away and hot. Where other dodgy old fellas go to ply their trade.

I reckon Charles will finally get to increase his popularity. The low point was at the Death of Diana. Now he is centre stage, i reckon he will do a better job than many had expected.

Right now there is sympathy for Charles he has just lost his mother. But how long before the public start complaining than an old man is getting in the way of a younger generation?

Hence my suggestion that to head this off he sets a time limit on his reign. Charles I and II did not cover themselves in glory so he has a chance to buck the trend, we will see.

Not sure I agree that the minor royals are good for tourism. Most tourists come for the buildings. Paris hasn't had a monarchy for 250 years but their tourism does all right.

I am still sad about our Queen which as I am a republican surprises me, however I think of her as my favourite grandmother.

There is now a brief gap before Charles's coronation which he and Parliament should use to shape his reign. I hope they don't waste he opportunity.

Anyway some suggestions on modernising the monarchy:

- Should we even have a monarch? Reluctantly I say yes. There is no support to abolish the monarch and we still need a ceremonial head of state "President Reality TV star / Failed politician" anyone?

- Line of succession. Women are discriminated so Anne was behind Andrew even though she was older. This needs to end. Catholics are barred from the throne this needs to end.

- Head of the Church of England. The UK is the only western democracy with a state religion which puts us in the same company as the middle east. The COE needs to be disestablished and the Archbishop of Canterbury recognised as the head of the church. The monarch should be free to practice whatever religion they like.

- The Firm. It's time to break up this cozy little cartel. The new firm should be the monarch and consort and the heir and that is it. All other members of the royal family should be thanked for their service and told they are now private citizens. Sorry Meghan you are out.

- King Charles III. I doubt he will be as popular as his mother. He has waited his whole life for this job so it would seem churlish to deny him now. However if he wants to protect his reign and the monarchy the smart move would be to announce a time limit on his reign e.g. 5 years after which he would step aside for William. If he hangs on like his mother did he will only cause problems for the future.

- There is no such thing as a job for life. Most other European monarchs now abdicate when they find the job too hard to do. The royal family need to accept that retirement is normal even the pope does it.

The focus will now be on the funeral but it will be interesting to see if any of the above happens, if it doesn't it will be a wasted opportunity.

With idiots like Harry being born? No thank you. All our roots and heritage are already being demolished as we speak

I don't want to be the t*** that says that I don't think Charles is half the man the Queen was.

Reminds me of the episode in The Crown with Charles at the same Scottish boarding school as Philip with Philip struggling to understand Charles’s weaknesses. The queen and Philip had some tough experiences their children never had.

I support the idea of monarchy without supporting this woke mess of one.

All they essentially care about is remaining in power. The British don't have a monarchy who see themselves as representing them. What they have is a monarchy that sees itself as representing the Commonwealth.

That frankly is meaningless to me.

If anyone looks at the crowd who turned up outside Buckingham Palace to pay their respects they will note that they were practically all white and that's in a city with roughly 40 percent remaining in it.....ironically the clip I'll use to prove that comes from the Guardian...oh ironies of ironies.

That is a clear indication that despite all the wokeness and pandering in the world the vast majority of non native British care little for them.

Long live King Charles III and welcome to the Buckingham Palace electricity bill.

It's bound to be above average usage perhaps he can rent it out.

Hardly the end of an era, should have gone straight to William and Kate.

I hope he surprises us with some input after his predecessor.

He can start by firing Truss and her tory elite until thy are elected.

The ridiculous narrative that often plays out in 'everybody loving everybody' and living in a joyous multicultural harmony with only white people causing obstruction to that is the most lunacy based and unequivocally incorrect projection that has ever existed.

the BBC will now have to deal with a straight white British male. Charles getting onto their main news stories.

I can already hear the grinding and nashing of atheist Lefty teeth. They can only console themselves safe in the knowledge he will likely be a Climate Change bore.

Yep, if anything approaching the truth was a principle respected within today's society the narratives would be different.

Instead what we have is a narrative that justifies and promotes the continuance of the direction we head in......which is managed decline with increasing disorder (sometimes unmanaged) for anyone without the money to move.

move to where exactly ? there are stabby gangs on the streets of Chelsea....where a house will cost you ten million.

And faraway poor rural places ? They have been filled with something similar.

The rise of Julius Caesar came after the plebs getting sick and tired of being ignored by an arrogant Elite. Ditto most monsters of history....Stalin, Hitler, Franco, Pol Pot. I am amazed how Caesar's reputation is not in the same place as Hitler or Stalin. He was every bit as genocidal.

longlive the king ? king of what ? King Arthur was King of the Britons. King Alfred was King of the Anglo-Saxons. King William of Normandy ? formerly William the b..stard became William the conqueror. King Charles II was king of the Stallions- sowing his wild oats everywhere. Charles I ? king of the stubborn stalwarts ....refusing to budge or move with the times and getting it in the neck by another monster ....Oliver Cromwell.

Before anybody becomes King, we should all discuss the job-title.
'defender of the faiths ?'' which faiths ? can anybody just add a new dingbat-crackpot faith to the list ?
