I agree. I do not understand why Hughes is not getting more minutes. Unfortunately I cannot see what Luka now brings to the team, he looked a lost soul during the warm up and his performances have been well below his previous levels.
Regarding the warm up, Wilf was down for a while, then slowly walked to the side of the pitch and was given some sort of energy drink, he did not take much part, I wonder if he feeling under the weather

I've started to change my mind about Ayew this season. Formerly I've only noticed the lack of goals and assists, the tendency to run down blind alleys,hold on to the ball too long and spend too much time falling over. And yet...his sheer bloody mindedness and competitive spirit has to be acknowledged and commended. Sometimes a contribution to a team has to be measured through attributes other than goals and assists. Yesterday he played on undaunted by his nasty head injury and he rarely misses games through injury. And he did make Edouard's goal v Chelsea and won the free kick that led to the equaliser yesterday. So there are the occasional assists...

I've started to change my mind about Ayew this season.
Formerly I've only noticed the lack of goals and assists, the tendency to run down blind alleys,hold on to the ball too long and spend too much time falling over.
And yet...his sheer bloody mindedness and competitive spirit has to be acknowledged and commended.
Sometimes a contribution to a team has to be measured through attributes other than goals and assists.
Yesterday he played on undaunted by his nasty head injury and he rarely misses games through injury.
And he did make Edouard's goal v Chelsea and won the free kick that led to the equaliser yesterday.
So there are the occasional assists...

He looked as if he had a cold. He was certainly off his game, slow of thought, misplaced passes and poor decisions. I was a little surprised he played the full game. For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

Always appreciated Ayew but he was far removed from let's say the Wilf/Townsend or even as far as the Wilf/Bolasie approach. Saw him as a grafter, good technical ability etc however a decent looking piece of jigsaw that for one reason or another didn't quite fit anywhere. Under PV, we seem to be playing what I would deem, 'smarter football' in terms of keeping the ball with a clear(er) tactical plan etc. I think Ayew has found a place in that system plus it plays to his strength. Conversely, our previous approach had for a number of years been more on the 'defend for our lives and nab the odd counter attack' style. Within that system the want for a more effective, goal scoring, pacey, tricky winger seemed far more appropriate. In any instance, it seems to be working for now which is of course good for us but for him too. Despite wanting for better I can't help but have a real soft spot for Jordan which prevents me from being critical of him. When the time comes for his departure I hope for him to be remembered as fondly as possible. Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Ayew is probably one of the first names on the team sheet, because of his energy and sheer nuisance value. Other teams can see it, as they often double up on him. He draws fouls and allows us to draw a breath and regroup. He is often available for the out ball. He might have been signed as a striker, but has developed into something quite different, and very valuable. Which is just as well, as he isn't an effective striker! I just wish he could look happier! For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

On Match of the Day last night (last game - go figure) it was pointed out that Leeds closed down our out ball very effectively until we started playing it short and then looking for the pass which got around them when they were tiring. A good tactical switch.

We've seen the likes of Southampton, Leicester, BHA etc utilise this model previously. As much as I would like to see the likes of Olise, Edouard, JPM, Eze, Doucoure, Mitchell, Andersen, Guehi and maybe even others stay at Palace, continuously improving for the next 5 years I think it is unlikely to the extent of impossibility.
