Why would anyone who values democracy and fair elections be against proof of identity before casting a vote? It is required in almost all countries in Europe. The Democrats presumably believe it would cost them votes so they are totally against the idea and try to make it a race issue

They don't.

It seems odd to us, but we don't live in the USA where it is a race issue.

The opposition by the Democrats is not because they don't recognise the common sense of it, but because of it being part of an attempt by Republicans to deny some people their vote. Trying to restrict postal ballots, force people to travel a long distance to queue for hours to register themselves, and then to vote, is all part of it.

So long as the whole package of restrictions is removed and both parties works to ensure that everyone entitled to vote can do so easily and fairly, then ensuring that no-one unentitled to vote, doesn't vote, would quickly be agreed.

Eh? You mean Mitt Romney isn't going to be republican leader? That's amazing, I mean I thought some really clued up people had a handle on the GOP a couple of years ago. Ah well, shucks, them the breaks.

Turns out they didn't know their backside from their frontside.

Everything evolves. Events change political imperatives.

That was before Trump's Big Lie ended up in an assault on democracy and dragged the GOP down to his level.

Only when they finally rid themselves of that man will they stand any chance of a return to the honest and decent standards of the GOP of old. Standards that Romney represents.

DeSantis trumping Trump now looks a distinct possibility and, whilst he also has some pretty illogical and unfortunate opinions, he does have two very important advantages. He isn't Trump, and he has a brain. So he might be another stepping stone back to some kind of normality. Just as Biden has been.

The Senate is really all that matters it can overrule the congress, only the supreme court can overrule the Senate

You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Wow you are correct Becky. I just looked all you need is a National Insurance number no wonder the left don't want voter id.

There are plenty of stories about NI numbers being issued to people who are not entitled to them so hardly a secure identification method. Even if they do have an NI number who is to say they are entitled to vote in that particular election.

What a shambles, this is where the real voter fraud takes place not so much at the ballot box on election day.

Aha, so this is how Sad Dick Khunt got elected, all 3.5K of his extended family ALL live/reside at his Tooting address.

You would expect adverse reactions mid-term just like us.

If the democrats hold on to the senate that would be a very good result and with two years to go.

The republican surge never materialised.

Where do you get that from? It looks more likely it'll be tied or the Republicans gain a one seat advantage.

There was no red wave, but it was still a good night for the Republicans in taking the House. There are a few interesting implications.

Wnat happens then where the USA president has so much power but cannot get his stuff through.

Trump used to rule by executive orders I don't know how effectively, I don't think Biden does.

Ha! The idea that Harris would get to decide anything is somewhat amusing.

We have a president in obvious mental decline, probably medicated to the nines and a vice president, there not out of merit but due to race and gender....someone who on merit wouldn't be running an ice cream van let alone be one heartbeat away from running the free world.

Why bother with other news media?

And you get emoticons, too.
