Their writer, Eddie Braben, talked about this. He said Eric wasn't keen on the idea but Braben said Laurel & Hardy did the same thing and convinced him except he insisted on smoking a pipe when he was in bed because it would make him look more manly - not sure about that but it worked for him.

They did it all the time on Rainbow

Kids, tired of being bothered by your pesky parents?
Then leave home, get a job & pay your own bills, while you still know everything.

I'm that old, the highlight was watching Palace v Millwall on Christmas day, then the return at The Den on Boxing day. That was when footballers were men, no whining about two matches in two days. Where is Ronnie Rook when you need him😀

Seeing families in matching pyjamas all over Facebook Xmas used to be such a personal experiance, I enjoyed Xmas in the 70s and 80s when we had less money and family was closer long before social media and look at what we got culture.

Just about my worst experience watching Palace against Millwall at the Den - 3:0 down at half time - my brother was a Millwall fan & the only tickets ha could get us were in the home end - George Burley got fired about 30 minutes after the game -
