Absolutely, but players do develop at different rates. The important question is:
Is JRS still developing?

Given the way he has taken to League 1 football and the esteem with which he seems to be held by Clown fans, it seems that he is.

There is a genuine possibility IMO that Championship clubs will be wanting his services next season and if he performs in that league he will have a good chance of becoming a PL player. A long way to go, I know but not impossible. Let's not forget that Gallagher's first loan spell was with the Clowns in League 1 before moving up to Swansea in the Championship etc.

I think an even bigger point is that we already have an abundance of luxury players who throw in the occasional bit of fancy skill but fail to contribute much to the goals tally. Is he an out an out goal scorer or just another wide player to add to Ebiowei and Banks on loan, Olise, Ayew, Zaha, Eze? Albeit if he scored as many as Wilf no one would ever complain.

A good question Eaglecoops.

I saw him as yet another luxury player in the Olise/Ebiowei mould. It will be interesting to see how he has developed at Charlton.

Having said that, regarding the others you mention:
- Eze's not a wide player IMO
- Wilf may well not be with us next season
- Ayew will probably be on annual contracts
- Banks didn't do a great deal at League 2 Bradford before his lengthy injury. Also apart from his free kicks, I don't see him as a PL player.
- Ebiowei is unproven and looked lost in a recent appearance before his loan to Hull
- As for Olise, I can well see him being snapped up by a bigger club in the summer for a fee the club will find difficult to refuse.

On the general point of luxury players, that's been a major part of our problem in recent weeks with neither Olise nor Eze doing enough, especially out of possession.

I'm hoping to see both Lokonga and Ahamada in play as proper midfielders who will let the opposition know they are in a scrap. It would mean Eze being on the bench.

That could be us in a few years. Lower tier, half filled stadium losing at home to a team you didn't realise was fully professional.

Good on the fella. Whether he can do this in the PL we don't know, but he is whole heartedly taking his opportunity at Charlton.

Agreed. They hate their owner who just scuppered a bid for the club which the fans wanted. From what I read I'm not sure the new owners would have been any better but yes how the mighty have fallen.

I used to know a prominent Charlton Fan who worked for the club and ran the official supporters club. He took great glee when Jordan was in financial trouble bragging how well run a club Charlton was Jordan begging Charlton to buy some of our players.

Whilst a little bit of me has a s n i g g e r I agree that this could be us all it needs is for the Americans to oust Parish and sell out to some dodgy consortium.

Their fans are grasping at straws the latest failed bid was lauded because it was based on the Bolton model. Well I looked at that and wondered what the Bolton model is, apparently it is based on getting a good CEO who knows how to run a club. That's not a model it's an aspiration like saying we will achieve success by appointing good managers and buying good cheap players.

What are the prospective buyers actually buying ? There was mention of a £10m purchase price quoted to the Methven bid.

The stadium and training ground are owned by Duchatelet. I understood ( it may have changed ) that any deal included the commitment to purchase those from him. And he wanted something like £50m for them.

It's like the Goldberg / Noades situation.

A far cry from the Richard Murray days. A mate of mine was on the Charlton Board then and I used to envy the way that club was run.

As for Jes, he's having a good season in a very average team. Hopefully he can use it as a springboard to progress with Palace next season

Apparently there is some form of agreement that the club rent the ground from Duchalet with an option to buy so any new owners would inherit this option. However I take your point what do you actually get for £10m a load of under performing players with little transfer value.

As for Methven he is the clown that Sunderland supporters loath for ruining their club.

Top scorer for them with 9

There must be doubts but I am confident maybe he and others will come through and get their chance in the first team as our Academy is among the best teams in country at both U21 and U18. If other clubs can find a few players that way why not us? In time they should be given the chance to prove themselves at Palace.

However, throwing a young talent into our totally dysfunctional team and type of non football we are playing right now could prematurely end a few promising careers!

Originally I thought sending him out to clowntown could end his career, but I think you’re probably right with this statement, we’ve got enough headless chickens up front at the moment without creating another one
