In this league no team dominates for 90 minutes but you have to take your chances when you are top. We had enough of the play and got in good positions in the later part of the first half to have been leading at half time.
There were a lot of cringe worthy moments for me in the game but the worst for was when Ayew took out 4 Spurs players with an excellent run moved it to Doucoure and we had an overlap to his left but he just blazed it wide. Ayew not been aware where Olise was another but at least he got a shot away and it was on target.
Left feeling we are in that transition period where we want to attack and dominate (getting away from the Hodgson mentality of stopping the other team scoring) but the defence is not strong enough to keep teams out if we play with an attacking based midfield whose main weakness in my opinion is keeping hold of the ball when under pressure.
It might be tempting to revert to a Hodgson style to keeps teams out but if we are going to progress we need to improve our strength and skill on the ball from our flair players so we can keep it better and don't have to defend as much.

We're 10 years into the Premier League and Jeffrey Schlupp is our second best CM. With the possible exception of Bournemouth, I'd argue we have the worst central midfield options in the league. That's a major, major issue.

Based on last year we've effectively lost Gallagher, Kouyate and McArthur and brought in one. Totally inept management of the club. The cheque book has to open immediately and we need to bring someone in with Premier League experience to steady the ship in midfield.

Use Butland as leverage and get Scott McTominay.

You’re kidding right? mcTominay is atrocious.

If anyone let Kane wander into the box especially for Kanes second it was Guehi. Not schlupp. And wards attempt to stop him was pathetic.

But the fact is, Schlupp is pathetic most of the time. Jogging around and never seem to really take part in a game. Wonder how Doucoure feels with him and Eze as midfield compatriots?

To try and take a balanced view of the game
- we were slightly the better team in the first half
- we won’t come up against a player like Kane every week
- it’s rare for our defence to collapse as comprehensively as it did in the second half.

On the other hand
- Spurs created very little through midfield with all the threat coming down the sides and we did nothing to counter this with our full backs very exposed throughout.
Our tactical response was poor.
- Schlupp will never be the answer in central midfield and it’s baffling why he continues to be used there
- We have to many players who run with the ball rather than play first time passes.
Pass and move and making the ball do the work are fairly basic aspects of the game which often escape us, in particular in the absence of McArthur.
In my view it will be difficult to accommodate all of Zaha, Olise, Eze and Ayew in a consistently successful team in the absence of a solid midfield platform.

It’s unclear to me why the noises coming from the club point to very limited activity this transfer window.
We had money in the summer with moves lined up for Gallagher, Downes and AWB and also offered Kouyate a one year extension.
None of those players signed and McArthur has also been injured all season.
The gaps in the squad are all too apparent.

Really poor second half and it’s clear to see where we need to strengthen on the pitch. Interesting to hear we have no budget at all whereas Conti is complaining that he needs more money to compete, but since his appointment in November 2021 has spent over 200 million.

We are standing still atm and after a while you go backwards, this is reminding me of that Stoke side a few years back. It keeps on being mentioned that PV has a really good side to pick from, well I don’t see it that way at all.

My only hope is that a couple of gems come through from the academy, I’m not holding my breath.

As for last night we folded too easily and something isn’t right. The ref had a good game so we can’t blame him!

There's a fair amount wrong at the club, starting at the top whose big shareholder says he's more interested in his other club.
Then there's the lack of investment (in PL terms), the reliance on loans and the Academy coming good one day, if ever. The Championship level ground and players. A naïve and inexperienced manager in charge of an unfit squad. After 10 odd years we've become adept at treading water and got rather to used to it.
After the first season's lift of a new manager playing in a different way from the previous incumbent's anti-football, and a loan player who competed at a level that illustrated what was required, then we all got excited about future possibilities.
Second season reality, honeymoon period over, best player gone, the other big name at the end of contract, thin squad quality overall, no new signings incoming, 7 goals against and none for in two recent home games - some would say we've been treading water far too long and haven't progressed.

If you haven’t got the £££££ to compete in the top half of the Prem, you need things to keep going your way and all the stars to be aligned (manager, player talent, injuries, fixtures). And at some point they won’t be. Which feels like where we are at now. Can only hope there continue to be three worse teams. We’re not alone in this. Southampton Wet Spam & Everton are the only 3 teams outside the big six who have had a longer run in the Prem, and look how their seasons are doing.

There is nothing wrong with most of the players, a good CF is obviously needed and i am not sure what Doucoure adds, he cant read the game, cant pass, and is too lightweight.
The problem is as i have said numerous times is we have a rubbish pair in PV and Roberts, Cant motivate, cant organise, does he have any ruthlessness in him at all, he is too pally with the players, get rid of them both and make Freedman Manager with Derry assistant if not get Dyche.

His first season, I expect we still had subconsciously drilled into us Hodgson's ideas etc and the shackles were off in some respects and with CG on loan, it was a fun season. At times, far more attractive to watch, which to me, was nice.
This year, we been found out, PV doesn't have a plan B, we don't have CG in midfield, too much is expected of Wilf and he looks to have zoned out and we are left stranded.

That's why I don't like loans, once they gone, you got nothing.

That's not the fault of the loan system as it's the fault of the club's management in not replacing a key player whether by purchase or a further loan and that's without mentioning the non replacement of another key player in Kouyate

Don't be daft. Doucoure must be at the stage where he's looking to the left and right of him and thinking "f*** me, look at this pair of useless lazy herberts I have to carry"...

But how serious were our offers? Downes yes but he choose Wet Spam over us the rest I have no idea what type of bid we made.

Teams come to Selhurst, thump us 3 or 4 nil then say what a good team we are and what great players and manager we have!. The truth is we are very inconsistent, Eze and Olise flatter to deceive. Wilf has given up caring I think and we have no natural goal scorer at all. Vieira is one of a small group of managers who the media choose to give a very easy ride.
