Since we beat West Ham we have failed to beat Villa, Brentford, Brighton, Fulham. We have not exactly played City every week. I wouldn’t have us as favourites to beat a single team in this division at the moment. We are in serious trouble.

Correct, but context is always important. All these teams are above us in the league, plus

Villa - was a nothing game. We had a marginal goal called offside, their goal was an own goal.

Brentford - we deserved the win, but conceded in the last kick of the game

Brighton - not great but stayed in it and got a point

Fulham - 2 red cards makes it hard to asses

Starting Luka against one of the sharpest midfields in the league should have anyone questioning Vieira's judgement. I'll say again: I don't think Vieira knows his best side or his preferred formation.

Who should he have started as the defensive midfielder in the absence of both Doucoure and Hughes?

Schlupp naturally.

Laying all this on the manager is purely based on emotion. Half way through the season, we were mid table. We still are now, after playing teams who are above us. It's like sailing a badly constructed boat through a storm and the boat is taking on water. But the storm is almost over. And neither of those factors are the fault of the captain, or manager in our case. But let's chuck him overboard anyway. And when the storm ends, we'll still have a badly constructed boat taking on water. But now we have no captain/manager.

Interesting analogy Tim, all I would say is sometimes the Captain loses his head and needs to be thrown in the brig. Perhaps it’s time for the Lieutenant and his chippies to come and board up the hull and break out the bilge pumps.

Schlupp is not a defensive midfielder. He has been poor in his own position!

People say they are but in reality there is no patience any more. Fans want results right now when we know that realistically points are hard to come by right now. We'll do well to get a point against Brighton (which would be a good result). Same against Arsenal and we all know this yet it wont stop fans hysterical screaming for Vieira's head to reach fever pitch. After these next 2 games we have Leicester, Leeds, Southampton, Everton, Wolves, West Ham, Spuds, Bournemouth, Fulham, Forest.
There is no way anyone is convincing me that we wont win 4 of those which will give us 39 points (this has been enough to survive for over ten seasons in this division).
Ok, so people think PV has taken us as far as he can. The summer is the time for the owners to decide that (IF this is what they are thinking, I'm betting they are not). Sacking the manager as you are about to enter a vital stage of the season, the run in, is what teams that generally DO get relegated do.

Genuine question.

How many super top players like Patrick, Lampard, Gerrard have become lasting successful top club managers? Globally.
