I just read in the Athletic that Schlupp and Ayew have signed new 1 year deals. That should cheer the fans up.

I believe both are useful squad players. I don't want to say too much else.

Like both players and what they've contributed over the last four or five years overall but find that very disappointing to be honest.

Same here. It basically means they won’t be replaced this year regardless of our league status.

Me too. We have more pressing needs elsewhere in our squad for the limited financial resources that are likely to be made available. I'm neither surprised nor disappointed that Schlupp and Ayew have agreed extensions.

If we stay in the PL it's likely IMO to be two or three years before we can start offloading such.

It's disappointing if you associate exclusively with a reflection of the ambition etc of the club however that may not be the motivation behind it. Agree with the sentiment they are both good squad players and both have been very valuable to us over the years too.

If we are going to build the team following survival in the summer, even if hypothetically we go nuts and have say up to 7 new arrivals, Ayew/Schlupp would still not be taking up room as it's a thin squad as things stand and the aforementioned arrivals possible but highly unlikely.

If we do go down, I doubt there would be long queues for buying either therefore retaining them for a Championship season may well be useful and potentially cheaper than buying, or most likely failing in an attempt to buy, adequate replacements.

Neither are ludicrously beyond their sell by dates or prone to injury and whilst perhaps below what we'd like in the PL probably better than most similar players in Championship.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I think its important to note that the article says - signed new one year contracts under new terms - instead of just agreed one year extensions on existing terms - so at least both parties have considered the current situation, there has been some attempt at negotiation & an agreeable outcome has been achieved -

Some might say - both sides could have gambled to wait till the end of the season to see what league we were going to be in, but I suspect there was quite a lot of emphasis placed upon getting a sensible deal done now rather than adding more challenges to the summer recruitment program

It takes two to tango. The players know which side their bread is buttered and the the club knows it has the services of two reliable seasoned pros for another season.

I dont imagine that either of them were on sky high wages under their existing contracts either.
