Hi Dreamwaverider,

My guess is it allows for income outside of match days too plus a greater percentage of earnings per customer on match days due to the expansion of premium experiences for fans so not as simple as equating current match day earnings of the stadium vs new benefits.

We have some very clever people in charge of the club right now and i'm sure they've worked out the variables and opportunity to make more profit for themselves and hopefully a bit more to invest in the team too.

If we truly get building it could be transformational and mean we move up the revenue levels within the PL. Perhaps the next stage of development also attracts further investment from outside if we are bigger???

Parish has always spoken about our relative income vs other clubs in the PL and we punch above our weight at the moment and he is definitely taking us forward bit by bit. We are more stable than we have ever been and even if the worst happens we have a youth system and scouting system to get us back to the big time asap.

Exciting times to be a Palace fan

Dont want to sound negative, but with the modern day game, CP Park would have so much better infrastructure than SP. Either way, we are talking about a massive investment with very limited return.
Id love to hear how the proposed new stand would generate an additional £30m per annum. Sounds very optimistic to me when the whole of the current one doesn't do that.
Having said that, the only source of shareholder loans evidenced to fund an eye watering £150m new stand (which by the way will end up north of £200m) are Harris and Blitzer.
Im quite sure they will not approve any new build unless it is financially viable.
I am watching this space with great interest (and concern).

All Premier league clubs lose money.

I think the route to success is about attracting wealthy investors who will see your club as an attractive asset.....at least this seems to be how it went over the last couple of decades.

Palace's ground has been a significant disadvantage within the Premier league to becoming a larger club.....In real terms we have done remarkably well since we were promoted.

I agree with the analysis that Crystal Palace park was the better option....I was really disappointed when it fell through. However, that's in the past now and if Selhurst has possibilities to extend to become a forty thousand plus ground in the future....that takes us into the big club bracket.

If the playing side can be maintained alongside that it's the most sensible punt to future success.

Is the timing wrong? Will Premiership football clubs continue to fill their grounds in this difficult economic decade?....We will see.

Nice assessment!

Let's hope Palace can challenge for that elusive FA Cup or maybe even a European spot in a few years time without risking the whole club like Portsmouth did.

All comforting to hear Rob, especially when combining Sterlings comment about 'all premier clubs lose money'. Probably the best news from the Athletic article is the fact the Selhurst revamp will be funded by shareholder loans.
Assuming this will largely be H&B and not Eagle Holdings (Textor) securing a controlling interest, then we will likely make good progress as you explained.
So long as we are not saddled with any greedy commercial loan, then I hear the onwards and upwards cry. The concern I have remains one of club security over 'Onwards and Upwards.'
If we get it right the future opportunities could be immense.

Steve P has traditionally behaved in a rather conservative manner when spending the clubs money, providing an overall impression that he remains keen that we do not live beyond our means, for me that is comfort enough that despite the delays & increased costs this project will be undertaken with due financial consideration to the clubs ability to be able to afford the infrastructure improvements & over time generate a responsible payback revenue.

I understand regarding your concerns, being a palace fan always makes one nervous and finances are perilous for all clubs at the best of times.

We seem to be doing ok right now and if we can get that stand built...we might be able to win the FA cup which i watched us lose out on in 1990 and 2016.

That would be amazing!

Not saying it wouldn't be great to have a cup final but that would be about 'the glory' rather than making money . A short term boost no doubt to our profile but one place up the premier league table dwarfs what can be made from cup finals

As for the stand I don't see it any nearer than when Noades had his lego model in the foyer back in the 80's

And we still need a striker

I'm not so sure about that.

Apart from being a total non-starter thanks to local residents and Bromley Council's opposition, I don't think the infrastructure at CP Park is fit for purpose and would require significant investment to make it so.

As a kid it must have taken Steve Parish a lot of time and dedication to collect all the lolly sticks and silver milk bottle tops for him to build a model of the stadium of his dreams.
Will it ever see the light of day?
