His hand had just pulled away from grabbing Lerma’s shirt. It was a closed hand.

I think.... after the shirt pull he was jsut trying to move past him and was intending to almost get his arm over Lerma's shoulder (as you would if you are trying to get past someone blocking you).

But I know that sounds like rose tinted specs....

VAR is open to human interpretation often under time pressure
so not surprising stuff like this gets missed.

As most of the wrestling at corners goes unpunished if there is to be, as rumoured, a crack down on this argy-bargy next season then the VAR man is going to work overtime so there will be even more hold-ups in play than ever.

If so, the also rumoured introduction of added time for all stoppages next season (as in the WC) then going to a match will involve 90 minutes plus 15 minutes for half-time plus, perhaps, another 30 minutes 'stoppage time'

A real afternoon-out then.

Overall, this season, we've done well out of VAR.
