He did get a perfectly good goal struck off at Coventry, though. I talked to Mick Coope (sp?) some years later. He was standing on the post when he said Allen's free kick whistled past his ear, hit the back stantion and rebounded into play, far too quick for the referee to register what had gone on. Coope said he had never seen a ball struck more cleanly in years and years of professional football.
