His style of play is suited to the lower leagues.

I always like to see Academy players come through, but I didn't think it would happen for Rob.

I wish him well and hope he proves a success at Cheltenham

Up to 2021 it was if a player was under 24 and had come through the academy - as long as certain other criteria where met, incl. offering them a new contract, then compensation was due, decidied by a tribunal if the clubs cannot agree a figure. I am not sure if it has changed since then. Even if hasn't changed I wouldn't expect the compensation to be significant in PL terms.

Good to see him exploring other avenues.

Not sure. Has he lost his way or chosen the right path? Could be the road to ruin, highway to hell even

Certainly the compensation if any will be very little, more curious than anything else.

When we bought Guehi I believe he hadn't played a Premiership game for Chelsea and he still cost £20m. Our Academy stars go to clubs like Cheltenham on a Free. Just shows the gulf in resources. How we even manage to compete is a miracle.

We compete because all the big teams best U21 talent is out on loan.

Virtually the whole of what would have been our U21 1st team was also out on loan last season.

If somewhere in my remit was the overall responsibility for the U21 team / performances last season one of the questions that I would be looking to find an answer to would be - Why did a season of maybe 70% completed with good solid results seem to drop off a cliff when Paddy moved to be associated with the first team ?

Was it purely Paddy's change of responsibilities that unsettled the team or what other factors were involved, injuries, suspensions, tougher run of games, etc etc etc -

According to the linked article...

Street spent last season on loan at Shrewsbury Town, making 43 appearances in all competitions and scoring four League One goals.

That's really not very many goals, is it?

Good luck to him, I hope he is one of those able to forge a career in the game but I think he's done well to get a contract somewhere based on what I've seen of him.

I have watched most of the Palace Academy games on Palace TV+ over the last two or three of seasons. I have never really looked at Street and thought, he may be one for the future. In fact there have been better prospects who haven't made the cut either.

having watched the series on The Academy, I was impressed with Paddy's managing of the players. I tend to the view that Paddy moving on was a major factor in the fall-off, and in the club's apparent view that he will (one day) be a future Palace manager.

Powell will need time to adjust to his new responsibilities. Whether he will be up to the job remains to be seen - I am yet to be convinced. Fortunately with the major changes in PL2 for next season, we don't need to worry about relegation but it would still be beneficial to find ourselves towards the top of the new system playing the better clubs in the mini leagues.

Finally, re Street, it's all gone quiet and there's no actual evidence that he's made the move to Cheltenham as far as I can tell. In any event, he doesn't have a future at Palace as a prospective first team squad player IMO.
