Is it me?

I must confess that none of the players listed below really excite me and make go wow if only we could land him.

Thankfully the players that do that are already in our squad like,
Eze, Olise, Guehi, Anderson. Etc.

Sure we could do with a right back and striker but let’s not waste money on mediocre dross. I’d rather keep what we have and develop players like Rak-Sayi.

The beatings will stop when morale improves.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

I was going to post something similar - perhaps a bit more erudite - everyone we're linked with is over hyped sh1t. Which probably describes 70% of footballers. Some of the players we already have are worse, however, so there are players who would likely improve us. Think up front and full back. The rest, no.

I agree we need to improve up front. However, back in 2020 (with Eze) and more so in 2021 we started along the path of buying promising youngish players, bringing them on and selling at a profit. This summer is the first time where this model will be put to the test. There appears to be genuine interest in both Andersen and Guehi and as much as I, as a fan, would love to see them both stay, we need to sell one of them to provide funds for new players.

I would sell Andersen to Newcastle at the right price (say 35-40m - at 27 Years old, his value isn't going to increase, whereas Guehi's probably will) buy Schurrs (if that is who Dougie has identified as the next CB asset) for 20m. I would add the balance of the Andersen fee (say 15-20m) to the 10m or so we might get from Genoa for Mateta and the 7m savings from Zaha's departure and use it towards the purchase of a decent striker.

I know what you mean - it all sounds fine on paper. But there is a lot more involved - agent's fees and signing on fees for a start. Plus, operating at a loss or near means selling to just break even. We have 10s of millions of debts to service - some dating as far back as 2010/11. I'm guessing we would sell Guehi for the right price - which hasn't been offered as far as I can tell.

If our finances are that stretched this season and after frankly 2 flat transfer windows last season barring Doucoure signing then things do not look bright. I'm hoping we can keep the spine of the team together at the very least for this season.

Reality is that too many seasons now transfer market activity has long been the club's Achilles heel. Already too many other clubs have successfully hit the ground running and yet does Palace want to be finding themselves high and dry on final day of transfer window? Our club is great and should prove to be an enticing prospect for any player wanting to really craft and further their career. If such players are genuinely rooted to honing their football development as opposed to prioritising the 'golden shilling' then Palace Board should have players queuing up.
