The release clause is an absolute mystery and it's baffling how nobody knows the truth.

I simply don't believe that numerous clubs wouldn't have triggered a £35m clause if it was as simple as that.

However, no smoke without fire and Matt Woosnam normally semi-reliable.

City are my main concern as they've lost Mahrez and the idea of working with Pep is bound to be huge. If I was in his shoes reckon I'd fancy that a lot more than Chelsea.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Would you swap Olise for Hudson-Odoi and Gallagher? I think I would take that deal. Maybe Hall on loan as well.

Sadly I think this conclusion may be correct about the model.
Perhaps it was ever thus.
Southampton were raided some years ago for Van Dyke , Mane, Llanana and Clyne.
West Ham produced the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Lampard and Joe Cole for others.
Both could have produced good teams had they been able to retain their assets.
It would be a shame if we followed suit and I can’t just shrug my shoulders at the potential loss of our prize assets.

Where’s the glory, the dream or the vision in making a profit at the expense of weakening the team and making it less entertaining to watch?

I think we know he's off. How would we suddenly have the confidence to splash out the money for Franca. Our new model is buy young sell high so we will never be building a team for the future just a team for the shop window.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the buy-out clause and I would believe him if he told me the sky was pink, if I'm honest. Not looking great...!

why, he's just a journalist, albeit one of the better ones? I would prefer to hear it from the club or Olise's agent

It’s not a mystery. There is a clause, if a club submits a minimum guaranteed offer of £35m, Olise can be approached by that club and talk with them. It doesn’t mean we have to sell at £35m, that is still for negotiation, otherwise he would be gone by now.

Does nobody think it strange that different people think they know there is a clause of one type or another and yet not one site or one journalist has published the exact wording within the contract. Why would it be so secret that it can’t be properly revealed? This kind of tells me that journalists are still putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5.

My money would still be that he is with us come the start of the season unless there is a massive offer in which case I would take it anyway.

Sorry, I forgot to add that destabilising players, the fans and even the club itself is an often used trick of the bigger teams to get what they want.

He was the first one to break the Zaha news and generally when he posts a transfer story of any kind, it comes to fruition.

He's well renown for his reliability

Absolutely spot on.

For all the flaws in a team of slightly older players who had already reached their full (i.e mid-table) potential, the likes of McArthur, Tomkins, Ayew, Ward etc were or are at least committed to the club, even if only because they knew Palace was as high a level as they could reach. They gave their all to keep Palace in the league because that was thier best shot at staying in the league themselves.

That is a noticeably different mindset to the one shown by those who stepped down a level to play for us (Sakho, Benteke, Cabeye, PvA etc) and, as I fear we might end up discovering in the future, to that shown by desirable young talents when the going gets tough. Ask Southampton and Leicester.

I'm not against development of young players, and I'm sure a buy out clause was part of how the club got Olise to join, but we've survived this long in this league without being a shop window, and I'm not sure I like the implications of this kind of model any more than I liked relying on cheap journeymen.

Plus, £35m is f*** all. Average goalkeepers are going for that much now.

That's not how release clauses work at all. If someone bids £35m then we have to accept the offer. Olise may decide not to move, but it's out of our hands.

We must stand and be counted and demand Gallagher if they desperately want Olise. I know we have a good relationship with Chelsea but we can’t constantly be cap doffing (if that’s the expression) and wringing our hands nervously in negotiations.

The beatings will stop when morale improves.
