I know this will be roundly rejected by all the Thatcherites, who seem like they'll never change: apart from, maybe believing that private utilities was a bad move Oh and the same about the trains, oh, and 'right to buy'....

Still, thought I'd share

The last few Tory governments have hardly differed from the Blair/Brown governments - they too were and are high-tax, high-spend. The problem is that the Tories have not been Tory enough. Truss had the right ideas but bungled their implementation. Throughout the world free market economics has generated wealth and higher living standards for everyone, socialist economics the reverse.

Thatcher was a high tax PM, people don't realise, and it's tory free market capitalists who run out of other people's money, not socialists.

In fact labour tax less and produce more value across the board,

The current collapsing situation in the country is at a time when taxation is the highest since the end of WW2.

It's a good slogan, it has fooled the people most of the time, but it is a lie.

Have you actually looked at the link?

No, Tories were higher taxers and yet still managed to put public services where they stand.

Again, have you watched the link?

I watched a little bit, but it is the usual left-wing Wisbechean doubletalk.

Where has socialist economics worked better than free-enterprise?

"A little bit".

Well, there you have it, watch a little bit and then call it out as "Usual Wisbeachean double-talk".

Ok, did you get as far as the evidential figures? Point out exactly what you mean by "Double-talk" Now, point out exactly where, on the link, that I'll find it. Examples, please.

It's easy to forget the absolute mess that Thatcher took over.

The left were their usual nightmare and it's by no accident that she won easily in 79. Many, up to that point, lifelong Labour voters, voted her in.

She was very much the neoliberal and while she was probably the last real patriot in charge of Britain she did many things over her three terms that I didn't like.

However, as it was the choice between her and Foot it was no real choice at all.

She turned the country around economically...which can never be done easily or painlessly.....Yes, it was sometimes brutal and sometimes just wrong or badly done. Nevertheless, let it not for forgotten that some of the people and organisations she was up against did not play fair (I will not include Foot in that) and any criticisms we have regarding Thatcher should consider the absolute continual failures that were the other options.

Trouble is, with your thinking, we should, on account of people like him, throw the baby out with the bath water.

Are you advocating no welfare state, then?

Sweden, Ireland, France.....a generous Welfare State. Expensive housing and many minimum-wage workers having a worse off outcome than many scroungers. Employers must import staff as nobody else will take a job. Fathers are often replaced by Daddy Government.

Spain, Morocco, Greece....the opposite.

Generous Welfare = the last days of Rome....chaos & anarchy. Visit Malmo if you do not believe me.

So, again, are you advocating no welfare state?

I think I have the right to watch as much or as little as I like, after all, we don't live in a communist dictatorship - yet.

Government spending in general is usually wasteful and state activities, much of them unnecessary, are generally inefficient and badly run. This is true of whichever party is in power.

The best we can hope for is that they spend money on things we really need, like defence, law and order, public services and social welfare, but don't expect efficiency sensible financing in those areas either.
